There were 6 games. 4 out of those 6 games were blowouts, and the average margin of victory in the wild card round was 17.2 points.

Both of the seven seeds, the 9-8 Eagles and the 9-7-1 Steelers, weren't even competitive. Which makes sense, because they are only slightly above mediocre and they were playing very good teams.

IMO, this new format is going to lead to a lot more non-competitive playoff games in the wild card round in the future. The 2 seed is almost always going to be a very good team. The 7 seed is almost always going to be a mediocre to slightly above mediocre team. That's a recipe that's usually going to produce what we saw this weekend. Some not very entertaining games.

That's okay though.

It's extra football in January. Watch or don't watch. Provided more opportunities for winning money if you wanted to bet Tampa or KC ATS, or include either in a parlay.

Without the 7th seed you don't get that highly entertaining LAC/LV/PIT scenerio in week 18.

Agreed. The Eagles were not good and had no business being in the playoffs. They were in a weak division and didn't have a single win against a team with a winning record until the last game of the year (when the Saints won their game). It's all about money.

I'm fine with a weak #7 seed being blown away. It's better than having a good #7 seed sitting at home just so the #2 seed can have a week off. A lot of people watched games late in the season because their team was in contention for that #7 seed. It generates a lot of valuable revenue for just 2 extra games.

The change i'd like to see would be to bump a potentially strong #8 seed from 1 conference over to the other conference in preference to a weak #7 seed. (The team would have to be at least 1 win better). That would be more in line with what happens in the CFL. That wouldn't have happened this year but last year the 10-6 Dolphins would have replaced the 8-8 Bears at the #2 seed Saints. That would have made for better tv.

Worst wild card weekend in recent memory. The divisional rd looks good though
Naw, the 49ers beating the Cowgirls made the entire weekend worthwhile.
