Gate, which one would you want?

I'd say Khedira cause I've seen him play and would know what's coming into the squad. I do recall Carvalho playing for Portugal in the World Cup, but I didn't pay much attention to Portugal outside of the match vs the US.

It also appears that Arsenal are on the verge of signing Colombian goalkeeper David Ospina from Nice. It'd be an interesting signing to say the least but he did perform well at the World Cup.

I sawFabianski over the weekend speaking of Arsenal. Was warming up in front of us and deflected a ball off a beer. Picked it up and handed it to the owner. My buddy (Arsenal fan) asked him if it was heavier than the FA Cup... Fun stuff. Good guy

Debuchy is slightly better again. Both aren't that good! If you had watched France games during the World Cup you woulda realize that our RB and LB were liabilities!

So is Sakho better than Koscielny then?

Same. I haven't seen any level differences between them in the French national team (except Sakho is more physical than Koscielny).

But you know what? No matter who you put right next to Varane, he will look good!

So Liverpool need Varane and not Lovren?

Lovren? Damn I have lost track on him after he left Lyon... He used to be sober (nothing really impressive but efficient) while he was playing there. Oh! And that was painful to watch when he was positioned RB.

Concerning Varane, well let's be reasonable my friend. Varane is already playing for Real, and I don't think that would be affordable.

At end of the day, I was just trying to say that Varane makes look Sakho a little better IMO. Doesn't mean that Sakho is not good. He is a team player and gives 100% on the field. Eventually, he has a really touching story... His father passed away while he was a kid. His family and him became tramp. He overcame all of these challenges to become professional. I got a lot of sympathy for him.

  • "Both will be here next season... €20m? When it's those numbers you know it's garbage" - Jürgen Klopp on Reus and Hummels.

Have to love Jurgen.... Still Dortmund's not afraid to sell.

Anyone want to take on summing up the targets, ins and outs of their respective teams? quick summaries?

Liverpool Outs: Suarez (confirmed), Aspas (confirmed), Assaidi (confirmed), Wisdon (loan confirmed), Borini (bid accepted, waiting on player), Toure (rumored bid by Turkish club). Possibles: Reina, Lucas, Agger, Skrtel, Enrique

Ins: Lallana (confirmed), Lambert (confirmed), Markovic (confirmed), Can (confirmed), Remy (having medical, fee and terms agreed), Lovren (rumored fee agreed).

Rumored links: Manquilo (RB, Atleti, loan deal), Moreno (still cant complete deal), Origi (rumored to be on way for medical, loan back to Lille), Bakkali (rumored, with possible loan back to PSV, but apparently they arent fond of him),

Fantasy land: Reus (you heard Klopp), Di Maria (why not, he's leaving Madrid), Isco (same as Di Maria)

Other names: Griezmann, Lacavette, Yedlin, anyone else currently rostered on Southampton

Know much about him? 2nd choice right back at Atleti is all I know (and a highlight of him getting dumpster trucked by Ronaldo)

Interesting for us... loan deal for a right back would mean that either Johnson is gone and Flanagan is moving into his place, or Enrique is staying, the Moreno deal is off and Flanagan will provide cover to the left.

I dont mind the first scenario. the second sucks.

I honeslty think this was more one of those moves to stop a rival - Arsneal in this case - from getting him. Fergie used this tactic to great effect many times in the past.

I dont know about that... not the Rodgers' style to be honest. He has to have some value to us outside of preventing Arsenal (who just signed Debuchy) of getting a loanee backup.

According to all reports I've read, he is the future of the Spanish National Team. Think about Azpi! Maybe, there would be a door open after this season to purchase him.

  • Wasn't sure where to put this. It's an MLS Specific rumor but could have pretty big implications.

Rumor is that the league is being pressured by its TV Networks (who just spent 750 million on the league) to increase the salary cap. The Salary cap right now is under $3Million...

The rumor i have been seeing is the cap set at $10Million, and DP's would have to make more than 800k. That would mean players like Alonso, Rosales and others would not be DP's.

$10 Million plus DP's would put MLS in solid range for best league in CONCACAF being able to compete with Liga MX's wages with the exception of clubs like Cruz Azul, Chivas Guadalejara, and Club America.

Could the MLS jump to playing with truly big boy money? Is this too much, too fast? Shades of NASL failure a threat?

  • A sizable increase to the salary cap was a given with the big new TV contract MLS signed. I expected something more along the lines of a doubling of the cap the first year, though, not $3 million to $10 million. Given the fact that these new expansion teams are paying $100+ million entry fees, this league is not hurting for money right now. The single-entity model of MLS will also help prevent an NASL-style monetary flameout.

  • The biggest issue the MLS faces is quality product. When the NASL crashed it was trying to compete with the world leagues in salary at a time when US couldn't really watch European leagues

Now the MLS is trying to blanket the nation with the game at its absolute peak across the globe. Sound strategy. However, they need to realize that the product pales in comparison to the big 4 (in entertainment value not just player quality).

They need to be careful in extending player salaries beyond the means the league can sustain consistent interest and growth.

The game is huge right now so it makes sense to try and strike that iron while its hot. The MLS just needs to find that comfort zone

Chelsea's most decorated player now a part of Manchester City's American reserve club... Blues fans must be thrilled. Imagine him being loaded back to City until the next MLS season starts. When he is official? next March?

    anyways...

word is Origi, Remy, Manquillo (whom I am ignorantly excited about because of Nog's breakdown) and now Lovren are all set to be completed by Liverpool.

Leaves a left back (if they choose) and I'd say one more impact player (winger/striker) to come

Smurf, do you think the Roma-Yedlin thing is just convenience based reporting because Roma's in town?

NYCFC's expansion draft is in March. So he will either sit the winter...or go on loan somewhere. I doubt it would be City. I can see him going to Australia like I believe David Villa is doing.

Liverpool are signing some good players. Depth. They may have lost their superstar, but they are rounding out the edges. Will be interesting to see if the points they lost from Suarez leaving will be replaced by points gained from a more rounded roster.

Hard hearing Lallana is out for some time with a leg injury though.

Anyone catch the United vs LA game? 7-0. LVG has them in a 343/523.

As for Yedlin, I honestly don't know. Roma makes sense for him....I really don't think they want to loan him back to Seattle. I think they want him now and I don't think the Sounders or Yedlin are ok with that scenario. I think thats the issue...I think Seattle played hardball, and are going to get what they want.

  • Yeah Lallana out up to 6 weeks. Bit if a bummer. More motivation to get Vidal, Isco or Shaqiri. :)

United will be interesting to say the least. LvG is no Moyes. But its not Fergies United either. Still lits of window left and if they can shop outside England and bring a big talent in they may back to a top 5 side

  • Arsenal have apparently agreed to a deal for Southampton right back Calum Chambers, which would make things interesting concerning the future of Carl Jenkinson. I honestly don't know much about Chambers as he's only made 23 appearances for the Saints. Though Arsenal do have a slightly favorable history of signing Southampton players(i.e. Walcott and Ox).

They've also appear to be in talks with the Saints over a move for Schneiderlin.

They've gotten something like 80 mil already for Lallana, Lovren, Lambert and Shaw, and now will be getting 16 mil for Chambers. Hopefully they re-invest it wisely.

Have to agree with Simon, if Liverpool complete these deals for Lovren, Origi, Remy and Manquillo, we really just need a left back and a big name attacker and this will have been a great window.

Lallana out until September is a bummer, but it happens. We have plenty of cover.

Couple people I know here like Chambers a lot for what its worth. Think he may be England's future at right back (isn't Clyne English though?)

Yeah Liverpool finally have depth in mid. Still need an attacking player though. Appears Origi is back to Lille for the year.

Either one needs to be brought in (Shaqiri) or Markovic, Coutinho, Sterling, Ibe, Suso needs to step up quite a bit.

Coutinho has looked good thus far. Waiting on the others

Transfered to Roma for $5 Million. Loaned back to Sounders through 2014 season.

Seems to have more steam behind it than before. More information, more sources.

The announcers for the Man U - Roma match today said that they spoke to the owner of AS Roma, who is American, and the club is expected to announce the signing of a US International player in the next two weeks; they speculated that it will be Yedlin.

If he annoys you then United for sure picked the right man for the job. It's one of the requirements.

Bummer. Really thought he'd be a good signing. Borini may stay. I think we will go for some other targets

Yeah and that's not the first time that he failed a medical. Before he joined Marseille he failed his medical because of his heart condition. Apparently, it doesn't prevent him to play soccer though.

Iam wondering if Liverpool did their homework about it. He had played for Marseille, QPR, and Newcastle without any issues.

Good choice for him and Atleti to be fair.

  • Arsenal have now added Chambers to their transfer spree. Not sure on the fee as it seems to be either 12m or 16m depending on who you talk to. It'd bring their spending to about 57m which would be 57m more than this time last summer. I've started to use the term "renaissance" to describe Arsenal's summer cause it's almost like the team has completely changed their approach to the transfers this summer. You could probably ask any Arsenal fan right now and we'd tell you that our confidence for the season is growing with each day.

Isnt it just 3 players: Chambers, Debuchy and Sanchez? Havent all of the top teams added atleast that? Doesnt Arsenal typically add 2-3 players per window? I get the optimism behind Sanchez, but is that a "spree"?

United has added 3?, Liverpool like 6, Chelsea 4, I guess City hasnt added anything, but they're league champs.

Anyways, its certainly been a smart window for Arsenal.
