It was a TV miniseries, not a movie, but "Howzat" was great. It will mean nothing to Americans! It's about the beginning of World Series Cricket here in Australia, financed by the late Kerry Packer. Cricketers were paid peanuts, and the revolution was a tumultuous time, leading to much greater professionalism. Typical pithy Aussie series. BTW, "Howzat!" is a classic way to appeal to the umpire that a batsman is out. It was also a hit song in the 70s by an Australian pop band called Sherbet, who had a spectacularly unsuccessful attempt on the US market as "Highway".
Actually, the only American football movie I've ever seen was "Any Given Sunday" which I really enjoyed. I must check out others mentioned here. I enjoyed "Eddie the Eagle" - about Eddie Edwards, who represented Great Britain in skijumping in the 1988 Winter Olympics, finishing dead last on both hills, with far inferior performances to the other competitors.
