  • OK, so far I've just been enjoying a lot here; will say more later. Stunned by the Prince guitar solo on "While My Guitar Gently Weeps". Embarrassed I ever slagged Prince - I just mindlessly never saw past the hype at the time, and auto-disliked him.

I can't go past this for a starter. How well-known is British band Uriah Heep in the States/Canada? This may be a stupid question; actually, I hope it is, and that you'll like this live video of "The Magician's Birthday" (from a London concert in 2001)... I'm not sure what newcomers to ever hearing Uriah Heep would think of it, though.

I think it was Eric Clapton that stated Prince was one of the most talented and underrated Guitar players ever because he was the Front man he was along with the style of Music he played.

Glad I could turn you on to Prince's astounding guitar talent. When he decided to rock, he really did rock.

  • This was probably Heep's biggest US song (if it wasn't Easy Livin').....

I saw what was left of the band in like 2000 so around the time of the vid you posted. Think Mick Box was the only remaining member, and that singer looks like the same guy I saw though it's been so long now I don't remember for sure.

The only songs they play on radio here AFAIK are Easy Livin' and Free Me; both OK but, well, look how I crapped the bed about Prince and my initial knee-jerk reaction to his "image"... I love Heep, and saw them in the late 80s. Mick Box is the last original member. It was a bloody great concert, though.

Just so many great artists whose only songs that are played on radio are "mainstream+++".

    Warren Zevon! :)

  • Mike Portnoy (of Dream Theater) drumming on tracks of OSI's "Office of Strategic Influence" and "Free" albums. This "supergroup" was originally formed by Fates Warning guitarist Jim Matheos in 2002. Chroma Key keyboardist and vocalist Kevin Moore was the only other full-time member of the band. The band has featured a number of guest musicians on its albums, including Sean Malone, Steven Wilson, Mikael Akerfeldt, Joey Vera and Gavin Harrison.

  • Stevie Wright "Evie Parts 1,2 & 3" Live at Sydney Opera House. He was the lead singer for The Easybeats, one of Australia's first headline acts. They had a global hit "Friday on my Mind" in 1966.

"Evie" was released in 1974; this live version is from 2014 - he died a year later. I don't know if anyone here has heard this before(?) - I hope you enjoy it! It's a tragic song - his partner (as we'd say these days) dies in childbirth...

  • Christ, I'm enjoying myself tonight! Bloody selfish of me. :D

Here's King Crimson live with "Starless" performed in Paris on 22 March 1974, at the ORTFTV Studios, featuring Robert Fripp, Bill Bruford, John Wetton and David Cross.
