It was my heart and a bladder infection. I was out cold for five day with a breathing tube, which sucked! They can't fix a enlarged heart I've been handed a death sentence, its just a matter of time. But I'll tell you one thing their going to have to come and get me cus I'm not leaving without another superbowl win by my Seahawks. I've found out back in 2012 my heart was bad and every day is a new adventure. Alls good now except all the frigg'in pills I've got to take morning, noon, evening and at bed time. 14 pills day. Oh, and a six figure bill to boot. Other then that I'm doing great.

Wow! That's a serious deal Chalker. I've only been in a hospital once in my life, but I can relate to the bills etc. They said I got there just in the nick of time, but I left with a strong outlook for the future. Sure hope you get a long lease this go. It make take some time for our next SB win.

I’m so sorry to read this, Chawker. I hope you enjoy MULTIPLE Seahawks Superbowl victories in many years to come. My mum got diagnosed with an enlarged heart in 1975, and lived to 2014, aged 86. Hers was because she had a congenital hole in the heart (intraventricular septum); she had open heart surgery and bounced back from it amazingly quickly. Can I ask, what caused yours? Did you have a previous infection/illness in 2012, when you found out, in your words, your heart was bad?

I hope you don’t mind me asking – I partially know what such a hospital stay is like. I had an aortic dissection type A event (wall of my aorta split into layers, like puff pastry, but - obviously - didn’t quite get totally punctured) in 2006 and collapsed in my lounge room, in agony all over, except for both legs gone totally numb (hence said collapsing). Woke up two days later in intensive care unit; tubes and various connections everywhere, the chest “zipper” from the open heart surgery, and a bloody great breathing tube down my throat. I had a brand-new plastic aortic arch, and a pile of replumbing in my leg arteries, after all the massive blood clots (which was what made my legs go numb instantly) were removed, etc. About 6 hours on the op theatre table.

Of course, you can’t talk with a breathing tube ventilating you, so I had to write notes, in periods when I was awake. I was so glad to be rid of it (shudder); I mercifully wasn’t conscious for long while it was installed, and I hope you weren’t, either. NOT nice!

Oh, coming off all the heavy drugs in the main ward for another week, after a week in ICU, rehab, etc... oh, that was fun, NOT!

Anyway, I hope you recover nicely, as I did.

Yes, some are operable, mine its the whole heart is twice its normal size. My dad die from the same thing. Having another heart put in is out of the question, my call.

I am so glad you made it out of the ICU. Many days (years) are left ahead for you, so smile every day and kiss the ones you love often. We all need to do this as well.
