JJ Arcega-Whiteside is not likely to make the 53 roaster, but he was a productive WR in Stanford that enough experts rated him highly before the draft. In his last year at Stanford, Arcega-Whiteside led the entire draft class with 19 contested catches this past season on only 32 contested opportunities. Sounded like a guy with good hands, OK that was then, now he is a guy with hands of stone and fingers dipped in better.

What happened? NFL speed too fast? Lost of confidence? Injuries that slowed him down?

Never was any good at getting separation. Guys that always have a defender draped on them, even in their college highlights, don't usually work out.

May be that's why most of his catches were contested? But he had good hands back then, not anymore for whatever reasons.

My question is, why make a trade for him, when we are going to cut him anyways. When Philly flipped Ugo for a 7th rounder today. I’d rather have an extra draft pick.

Yes he sucks, but he might not suck as much as the other potential TE 3 the team has.

I'm really not going to judge him just yet based on just getting here, and the caliber of team he's had out there around him. That doesn't excuse the drops it probably doesn't make it easy on a receiver to get his head right on a brand new team with two duds dueling to be the QB.

His upside is versatility and any time you are looking at the bottom ten of the roster you better have some versatility. He is being trained as a TE but he can play WR in an emergency. If Arcega-Whiteside is willing to play and contribute on special teams that also is another factor too.

He is undersized as TE, and we don't know if he blocks well enough. I am curious about his hands because he could be that procession WR for us, but not with butter fingers.
