Pete's conservative nature only works with a good defense. The defense isn't good, and Pete can't adjust.

These PI challenges are wasting timeouts, again we're out of TO's when there's 7 mins left in the half an of course Russ has to throw it away so we can take a FG. Of course the missed FG burns the team again.

The defense played good, but Lamar Jackson just took it over. That kid is a taller young Michael Vick. Best move may have been to rush 3, drop 2 into a shadow zone and dare him to win with his arm.

Pete's philosophy was NOT the problem today. We just saw Pete's philosophy used by the Ravens to club the Seahawks into submission.

The problems today were Lamar Jackson and the Raven's defense stuffing our offense in the 2nd half. Absolutely not a philosophy problem. Seattle threw more than usual today because Baltimore stuffed our running game, especially any wide runs.

Or did you just start this thread to gripe about Pete in general?

Carson was getting chunk runs, they passed too much early in the game and you can’t have a pick six. I thought we were going to blow them out in the second half fwiw.

I think Pete is a good coach, but he believes in his defense too much sometimes. The 53 yard field goal miss, changed the whole game. It was a conservative call to keep the game close and momentum changed from there.

Playing this way you will win some games you should lose, but you will also lose some you should win because Russell has to play perfectly.

If anything Pete didn't stick to his philosophy. We threw the ball 41 times compared to 26 rushes. Baltimore stacked the box daring Wilson to beat them, and both he and the offensive line couldn't get it done. Self inflicted wounds cost us the game.

I am not just talking about a philosophy of play calling, but one that extends to coaching decisions as well.

So the 2 defensive TDs didnt have anything to do with it? Its all Petes fault?

Seattle went some series with pure passing, others that were run heavy into blitzes. I felt like we really played ourselves on offense. Bad game overall for Schottenheimer.

For the record, Pete kicking a 58 yard field goal, in the rain, is not the conservative thing to do. The conservative thing to do is punt.

It's not all his fault, but he contributed.

Yup. He is old and should not even be a coach in this league. He just cant win every game he plays. He sucks. Lets get ANYONE but him. I am sure you have some great insight how we could have won the game more so than Pete. :sarcasm_off:

Pete prefers to keep the game close as to give the opponent a chance to win the game. It builds ADVERSITY!!!

LOL.

Glad you posted this. This is, a least a paraphrase, of what Pete said to the commentators. Well that's at least what they said. Just about blew a gasket. Pete seemed to be ok with his blowouts in the early 00's with USC.

Is that why he let Texas stay so close?

They had a 4th and short, it was conservative compared to going for it.

My main point is that playing to keep games close has it's disadvantages too. Pete's a good coach, but keeping it close sometimes lessons your margin for error.

There is only one philosophy that works ; do your job or work for another team .
