Play action buys time for guys to get open and distorts coverage so QBs typically do better with it, but this is a massive difference.

I think with our timing routes, guys weren't getting open quickly enough against heavy pressure and wilson was being gun shy.

It would be interesting to see the down and distance for those. I know one was a nice play action on the Dissly' Td.It seems he is more comfortable on 5 and 7 step drops after play action.

Russ' first thought is to protect the ball. It is all about the ball is a constant refrain, so those plays where he's inside the pocket, he tends to wait longer and scramble if there is any sort of close coverage because he just doesn't want to risk it.


I've always thought Russ just takes longer to make a decision than others do. Brees often has his target picked out at the line before the snap. I'm not sure Russ does that yet. He needs to let go and trust his receivers sometime but that could cost us in turnovers.

Yeah, I think a lot of this is just doing what play action is intended to do - get deep plays, freeze potential pass rushers.
