I think Luck with health is more important and can create a fall off in a Super Bowl run more so then paying your franchise QB to lead a team if you are healthy. If you don't have your guy under Center chances are a defense will beat you in the playoffs.

We have lost two Super Bowls due to health reasons and some Refs granted, but Etric Pruitt having to play in the biggest game in place of Marquand Manual was key, also losing Avril, Lane, cost us the other, we were shutting the Pats down pretty much until they pulled Avril out.

So the reality is, the few saying we should not resign Wilson due to cap, are saying it because it's Wilson. If it was what they call a prototypical QB they would be saying do it. This is about Wilson not being 6 for 2 or better, being to familia in interviews, and other things that don't really matter.

No I generally think those who don't want to pay Russell do think he's a good to great QB...........it's more about paying him 35M a year + vs having that extra cap to spend elsewhere. They also point out that the most recent SB winning QB's don't make as much as the highest paid QB's in the league.

So let's look at that, here's a list of the most recent SB winning QB's, and what they made.

Brady
2018 cap hit $22M
2016 cap hit $14M
2013 cap hit $19M

Nick Foles
2017 cap hit $12M

Manning
2014 cap hit $19M

Russell
2013 cap hit $660k

Joe Flacco
2012 cap hit $30M (29M signing bonus)

Eli Manning
2011 cap hit $12M

Aaron Rodgers
2010 cap hit 8M

Drew Brees
2009 cap hit 13M

So two things you can take away from this list;

1. Elite QB's for the most part (of which you have to pay top 10 money, or they leave.
2. All except Russell and Foles were in top 10 of salary at the time they won their SB's.

So what are you really gaining by paying your starting QB at most 10-15M less than the top paid QB at the time? One? Maybe two good players? It's not like you've got the entire 30M of extra cap space........because as this list shows, having a rookie like Russell winning you a SB is an outlier, it's an aberration, far more than it's the norm.

..........and this aberration is the very QB you want to get rid of. Huh wat.

I think you have your years mixed up a little bit. Flacco had like a 5 mil cap hit the year he won and got paid after winning the Super Bowl, like most do. Foles also had a 4 mil cap hit when he won the SB. Rodgers was at 6.5 in 2010. Brees was at 10 in 2009. So, really, Brady is the outlier. If you're banking on becoming Belichick and Brady in order to achieve success, we might be waiting a while.

Yeah tell that to Tom Brady...

Horrible comparison. Brady takes three step drops and the ball is out, he rarely gets touched, let alone takes the kind of big hits, sacks and punishment on his body that Russell does.

And Brady rarely plays against defenses like the NFC West historically put out there. AFCLeast is where he gets to hang his hat.
