Anyone know who the corresponding player was that the team released?

I haven't heard a thing. It has only been 21 hours since the news of Woods intent to sign was announced. I'm guessing we'll hear something Monday.

It was a shame Al Woods missed those two Super Bowls earlier in this decade. Glad to see he will have another shot at earning a spot on board for the 2019 Super Bowl run.

The more i learn about this guy, the more i like him. I have a feeling that Pet e and Clintt will get even more out of Al and might even extend him. Hard working dude!

Real quick .. I got confused about his weight .. seems he dropped some weight last part of college in an attempt to get to the passer. A Colt fan page had an article about this ... I know he will be 32 and I am looking for anything I can to be geeked about but the fact that he was moving as well as he was at 330 lbs in 2017 is pretty cool.

After starting to find a more meaningful role in the NFL with a full-time move to nose tackle, and after putting weight back on to now tip the scales at 330 lbs., Woods has put in a lot of time honing his craft over the off-season. He has spent his summer working a cattle farm at his home in Louisiana, including using his breaks from taking care of the farm to work out at a local high school.

He focused on improving his abilities as a pass rusher at his new somewhat new playing weight.

“I think I can have a tremendous presence,” Woods said. “I can push the pocket. That’s one of the things I’ve been working hard on during the offseason on my own. Run defense always came easy to me because I was a bigger guy. But this pass-rush thing was kind of a challenge.”

To that end, Woods came up with a routine in which he would walk the length of the field, practicing a pass-rush technique every five yards, for 100 yards. The process would continue up and down, back and forth, until Woods could perfect the move at full speed.

damn I need a 12 step program to forget about the Hawks until training camp.. but anyway more and more seems like a better option than the other veteran run stuffing big guys they have brought in last couple of years.. should be able to have some fresh stout .. DT's in the rotation. Last year that run D .. hopefully we will be stouter .. and Poona will be year one to year two with more playing time... it's looking good on paper...

Cheers.

Given where he was drafted, his l-o-n-g arms and huge hands I suspect the team was interested in him back in 2010.

This is the genuine run stuffer they have wanted for a while.

So we've gone from an OT that pushes Escalades around to a DT that herds cattle, on foot.

I believe in Poona though they did not play him enough last year .. and that from what I gather is going to change.. Was thinking Shelton because he is young and hard to move could keep Reed and Poona fresh with Chrismas filling in too ...
When Poona did get on the field, he was a beast. In his first game the only defender who received a better score was Wagner. Allegedly made the 49ers center cry.

Why was Al Woods the choice at defensive tackle for Seahawks?

“Last year, according to Pro Football Focus, Woods’ D-tackle ranking was really low. The season before that? He was a top-15 guy as far as defensive tackles in the league go, of holding the point, of doing your job, of making people around you better.

Basically, (he is) what Shamar Stephen has done in this system; what Tony McDaniel has done. That position is to eat up two dudes, and free up Bobby Wagner, free up K.J. Wright, and free up the others to go and get it done.

Play your early downs — that’s what he’s going to be asked to do.”

Woods, meanwhile, started the first eight games of the 2018 season and then came on as a key rotational player over the next six contests before suffering a season-ending ankle injury in the Colts' Week 15 victory over the Dallas Cowboys.

Voted a team captain, Woods, who will be 32 by Week 1 of the 2019 season, finished 2018 with 24 tackles (10 solo; one for a loss) and one pass defensed. In his two seasons in Indy, Woods compiled 68 total tackles (six for a loss) with one sack, four quarterback hits and one pass defensed.

Interestingly, overthecap.com is not up to date on both Al Woods and Geno Smith being signed by the Hawks. Go figure because it's been about six weeks or so since they signed.

Speaking of missing out ..................... Our own "jammerhawk" invests a great deal of time and trouble in logging and recording events here >>>>> [urltargetblank]http://seahawks.net/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=153536[/urltargetblank] <<<<<< all that is required is a click ...... a little reading ....... and bingo ....... your up to date. The link location is pinned at the top of the page. It is a very useful reference link

DT- 72- Al Woods, 1 yr./$2.2125 million/$400 K signing bonus/,roster bonus $ 562.5 K, doesn't count as a UFA for comp FA purposes
QB- 7?- Geno Smith, 1 yr. $895 K /$25 K signing bonus/ roster bonus if on 53 $65 K if on 53, only counts $735 K against cap, player doesn’t count for comp pick calculations
