Title should say Pete brings in his son to challenge Bevell as OC.

I don't know anything about Pete's son. But i just don't like the family thing. I hope it doesn't end up like a Mike / Kyle Shanahan type of ending here in seattle. Cus it's one thing to fire someone but it's another thing to fire your son(s).

Pete hasn't put any of his sons in a position where there is much of a chance to fail. They are assistants and are working their way up through the ranks. Once they are ready, Pete will more than likely already be done coaching.

While hiring a son as an Assistant Coach can be perilous, it could also make for a strong staff. However, father and son may not always see things "eye to eye"....keep that in mind.

One of Pete's sons is already on the staff and has been since the beginning. Wouldn't be surprised if Pete sent his other kid out there to stay plugged into the H.S. and college recruiting world on the opposite corner of the country. Four year "R&D" mission in Miami. Not a bad gig.

They were both on his staff at USC.

Maybe the beginning of a monarchy. I could see him being groomed for future HC. Especially if other teams keep poaching our coordinators. Bevell (yes I said it), Richard, and Cable could all be HC for other teams in next 1-3 years.

Right now, I would guess Brennan Carroll will be recruiting free agents, helping with the draft, player personnel, etc. Just don't see him as focused entirely on the OL here. Maybe OC in a few years. Then associate HC, HC coach-in-waiting, etc.

Maybe a future GM if a team gives our GM total control and doubles his salary (gulp!). That is how Pete could cement a legacy.

I don't believe Nate was on the staff at 'SC, just Brennan.

Obviously means we are drafting Phillip Dorsett :stirthepot:

I thought that immediately

Oh we would all just be over the moon for another 5'10 WR! I can see the reactions now!

Honestly, I think he could be our #1 overall. Much in the same way Richardson was last year.

Sometimes, you have to take the impact players as they are. What I like most about Dorsett, is his ability to get clean separation with footwork and speed. Honestly, I'm thinking that those kinds of receivers are the kinds that Wilson is more comfortable with. Not throwing the ball up and letting a WR fight for it. Wilson has consistently chosen to throw to the open guy. I'm not sure getting a big target who will look like he's covered will result in Wilson throwing it up and letting his guy make a play.

Then what would you call the multiple throws to Chris Matthews? He throws 50/50 balls when he knows his guy has a good chance of winning. Besides Matthews, who do we have with the size to win those battles?

He has been coaching for over 12 years now. He was a TE in college at the University of Pittsburg. I am fine with the hire, he has put in his dues so far he is 35 years of age.

Im not a fan of nepotism either, but I wouldnt be too worried about this one.

Pete's son doesn't really have any power or authority, so it becomes a relatively simple matter of what Brennan can bring to the table as an assistant.

I also don't see Pete promoting either of his sons beyond what they have earned. I jist don't see Pete hurting the team because he wanted to speed up the advancement of his sons.

There's no way to tell if the Hawks will really benefit from this, but I dont see it hurting the team either.

The value of him coming aboard is the knowledge of a couple of prospects in need areas - Dorsett and TE Clive Walford.

Dorsette is intriguing, and fits our current profile, no matter how much we fans clamor for a big WR . . . spped rules in Pete's book.

Walford is a great blocker. Really like what I see there, but he's not a guy who will stretch a defense in any way, shape or form. He's strictly an underneath guy.

How is Walford at catching contested balls ? If he can at least beat a LBer and win contested throws, he'd be perfect as a traditional TE in our system. We already have Richardson and maybe another guy in the draft with speed.

Russell looked quite comfortable throwing the ball up for grabs to Matthews.

As he did often with Rice as well. And he does it with Kearse.

Piling on... What they said. Really, watch Russell's rookie year preseason... from the very start he's comfortable throwing it up for his guy to get. There was Braylon Edwards, there was another guy, 2012 preseason wonder, forgot his name, 6'5"ish, who got cut cuz he couldn't play special teams, had a couple long 50-50 TD's from Russell in preseason. Russell has that confidence with Kearse, had it with Tate too.

I think the 6'5 guy you're thinking about was Stephen Williams for the 2013 preseason. He had a TD in each of the first 3 preseason games that year.

Ding, ding, ding!! Winner, winner! That's the one. Stephen Williams.
Your prize is, next time you're in the Tacoma WA area, PM me through the board and I'll buy you a drink at the casino where I first watched Russell throw TD passes to Stephen Williams.

Mr. Stephen Williams was apparently not much use on special teams and was something of a one-trick pony, maybe two or three, but no more, as far as his route-running skills went, so IIRC, he was one of the final cuts. So now we have Chris Matthews in that role, who DOES play Special Teams with full enthusiasm, as we found out vs. Green Bay.
