This is going to be interesting ..........

Per a source, Dunlap and his representatives have maintained ongoing dialogue with Seattle in recent weeks about a multi-year extension. While a signing isn't imminent, the two sides hope to strike a deal and avoid a potential cap casualty before the new league year kicks off on March 17.

He's set to receive a $3 million roster bonus on March 21, which creates further urgency.

Would be nice if they could do a multi-year that eases the cap hit a bit.

Lord knows we need him.

He was a great addition and the defense significantly improved after acquiring him. Hopefully they can extend him and keep him in Seattle.

It may seem unrelated. But, I can't help but speculate that the terms of JJ Watts new contract with the Cardinals may point to favorable terms for both Dunlap and the Seahawks in 2021.

2021 is a disruptive cap year. Contract creativity is the accommodating ticket.

Teams are getting creative because they have to. Hopefully the players/agents will be somewhat cooperative.

This is good news as this player was expected to be a cap casualty.

Dumb move on AZ’s part he’ll get injured for sure!

Salary Cap could be 195 Million! It looks like the Networks are going to at least pay double to the NFL! If they pay Dunlap he can play either DE spot, I think they like his flexibility and are confident in the DE’s that are currently on the roster.

Pray Giants don’t tag Leonard Williams and we’re probably home free on the Defensive Line. Williams paired with Poona Ford we have the best DT tandem in the NFL.

Hearing we resign him would make my week. Dunlap showed a true appreciation for being here, and he also showed he is worthy of being resigned. He's just the right kind of Seahawk. Make it happen boys.

Is it not cheaper to cut him and then resign him.

We need him to even be a mediocre defense. He’s the only reason KNJ still has a job - except for being a friend of Pete.

That would be great if they can make it happen. He was the difference maker on that defense.

Yes. But there is the very high likelihood that he signs for more than our lowered offer elsewhere. There is risk on both side (he could be cut and sign for less elsewhere than an extension here).

So there is some motivation for both sides. But the impending 3M roster bonus on Mar 21 really sets the clock on this one. Probably why we're seeing evidence of it right now.

I'd expect an extension to get done, which would in essence be a pay cut for him in the long run. Adding a 3rd or 4th year that would be structured to be largely voidable by the team. Would give him guaranteed money at or around his current deal, prorated over the next 3 to 4 years. Giving him his current contract value, while allowing Seattle to spread the cost into seasons where the cap should increase sufficiently to absorb any future dead money hit.

There is virtually no way he'll get his current contract value on the open market. So I'd expect a deal to get done. An extension kind of is a cut and resign option -- but it'd be at the cost of guaranteed up front money and future dead money when he becomes a 2022/23 cap casualty cut. Giving him one last shot at free agency while he still has some juice.

It depends! Dunlap knows there are plenty of DE’s hitting FA! Seahawks are straight shooters and if Dunlap is too then everything will be on the table, besides Seattle is the top organization in the NFL where’s Dunlap going to go!

Hawks will only offer Dunlap a fair contract they will never over pay in this market!

There are only 3 players Seattle will over pay in my opinion, Leonard Williams, Trent Williams, and Sam Darnold (1st round pick isn’t too much but many will think it is)

Dunlap could have boycotted the trade to Seattle instead he went with the flow, TOOK A PAY CUT & came to Seattle! Seattle may have committed to “taking care of Dunlap” if it worked out and it did! Dunlap got Schneider a new contract, saved Ken Norton’s job, and won Seattle an NFC West title. Dunlap did all that while being a funny & interesting character that makes everyone laugh & smile.

Thought it was odd they would leak that before the Giants declare if they’re tagging Leonard Williams!! Leonard Williams solves lots of problems, he can play all positions on the DL. We’re desperate for high quality 3 tech play, Jarren Reed is too inconsistent!

We drafted 2 players last year to play DE and have 4 under contract. Collier should be a pass rushing 3 tech and played 5 tech last year. Dunlap was able to get sacks opposite of Collier.
