After being phenomenal against play action in 2013, we regressed in that area more than any other team in the league, per Football Outsiders. We allowed a mediocre seven yards per play action play vs. 5.3 yards per non-play action play.
After losing Mebane, Bryant, McDonald, Clemons, etc., it's possible we were selling out to stop the run a little more than we had been in 2013. Injuries to Chancellor and Wagner probably did not help the situation. The good news is, in spite of those absences, we allowed just 81.5 rushing yards per game, which is a franchise record. Not to mention we led the league in scoring defense for a 3rd consecutive season.
