Summary of Coach Carroll Monday Press Conference:
The team is working hard to figure things out. They are still working on it and have come to some conclusions. We came out and played our best football for the most part. Bengals captured the momentum they needed to finish the game. We gained some ground in some areas, but we can get better and get back on track in areas that will help us down the stretch.

The line of scrimmage was the best it has been this season. The line came off the ball well, we ran the football how we like to, though we needed a first down in the 2nd half, especially in the 4th Quarter, to put the game away. The communication was good along the offensive line, and Russell Wilson helped us in protection a few times. This was the sharpest we have been along the line of scrimmage. Any sequence in the fourth quarter could have stopped them in there. We had third and shorts, by design we were trying to stay in 3rd and 6 or less against the Bengals. It was frustrating that we didn't complete any of those 3rd and shorts, most of which were passing plays.

The defense was not sitting back or waiting on them; we were trying to continue with the pressure on defense in the 4th quarter. We rushed them better than any team has this year. Carroll can't even explain how we are winning these games with a negative turnover ratio, while losing these positive ratio games. We didn't get it done in the zones in deep coverage, giving up touchdowns, though Kam Chancellor was in the right places. There were breakdowns in communication. Cary Williams went really aggressive at the receiver on a couple plays, and unfortunately mistimed his jam. He was in position, but penalties were called on him where he had very good position. Williams was better the week before and technique wise he could be a little cleaner. Bennett lost his mind a bit in being too aggressive. In the old days, that was what you did.

Jordan Hill has a strained quad and will miss a couple weeks. With Jordan Hill out it depends on what happens, if Demarcus Dobbs comes back we will do some things. We have a few options but we don't like getting much thinner than this. Bobby Wagner has a strained pec, and will find out how that works for him. Bobby's pec could be a couple weeks if it doesn't respond, but he could also play this week if it does respond. Tharold Simon will have surgery on his toe, had it on his other foot as well, so it is a problem for him. Marshawn Lynch should be on schedule to practice on Thursday, and he is expected to play in this game. Marshawn has been an incredible player for our team. He brings the confidence, toughness, and play making style that he has cultivated over a number of years. It's a big deal to not have him, but he is really proud of what Rawls did with his opportunities.

Will feel really comfortable with Thomas Rawls as the backup RB. He has exceeded expectations. Rawls works so hard in practice and always tries his hardest but you could finally see it in games. He is breaking tackles, making runs, getting up after his runs end and is ready for the next one. We were playing hurry up in overtime, which was why Fred Jackson was in there instead of Rawls. Rawls is doing alright in blocking, though they are trying not to overburden him. Russell Wilson saw Tyler Lockett late in overtime, could have easily gone to Doug Baldwin, which had a chance for a big play too. Unfortunately, Wilson threw it late and couldn't get the ball there. Russell did some really good things, but he missed a few opportunities on 3rd downs.

For example, he missed Jimmy Graham on a 3rd and 8. The plan in the calls we made in the 4th quarter were ones we were successful with before. They just didn't work for multiple reasons. We would love to get more from Jimmy, more from everybody. He did well in this game, but we could still use more from him. We only completed 15 passes in this game. We need to get more out of him, but also need to get more out of the other guys.

Summary of Coach Carroll Friday Press Conference:
We are focused on this week, even though we have a challenging four-day turnaround against the 49ers coming up. We don't know yet whether Bobby Wagner will play with a shoulder/pectoral injury. He is tough enough to play with it, just a question of whether it is the right thing to do with another game on Thursday. There is a good chance Demarcus Dobbs will be back for this game. Frank Clark has a slight, first-degree strain in his hamstring. We will have to see how Clark is feeling on game day. Brock Coyle is nursing a knee and is expected to play. Team has not spoken with Derrick Coleman yet. We have moved some people around to replace Coleman. Will Tukuafu plays fullback for us. We don't know anything yet about the Coleman situation. Nick Moody sprained his ankle on Wednesday in practice. K.J. Wright has played Mike for a while, which calls on Kevin-Pierre Louis to play at Will. Tye Smith will not play this week. Paul Richardson is ready to go, but may not be ready on a short week. Jeremy Lane is going to need longer to recover. Marshawn Lynch looked back to full health in today's practice, and we are counting on him playing. Cam Newton has gone through the natural progression that comes with experience at the QB position. He has a great arm to make big throws and they use his running ability well. They have a really good defense. They do a great job getting the football and not turning it over. This week of practice has been really solid. Hopefully we will be able to run the football against a really rough front.

Thanks.

There seems to be a Tom Cable interview floating around that can't I find. Heard mention of it, but I'm not sure if it was radio, newspaper, video or what.

If anyone knows, that would be much appreciated.

Earl's responses are always so cryptic. I learn a whole lot of nothing from his interviews. Maybe that's on purpose.
