They needed to find their blueprint for winning. And it had to come from new guys.

We are establishing ourselves as the new bullies in the league. And it's being established by a whole new core of players. That might be Pete/John's most impressive feat in all their time here.

It's a good thing we're going to have a lot of cap space next year. We have a whole lot of talent to lock in. Loads of players worth a second deal on this team.

Surely the Hawks are so hot right now because they've been in talks to bring Tanzania back to a certain end zone.

Attitude.

It's infectious.

There's a huge difference for OL when they are allowed to attack vs being on the receiving end of impacts. Especially for a QB who can't stay in or step up in the pocket where the geometry gets so heinous, which makes the pass blocking twice as hard. Even from a pure mentality perspective, it's passive vs aggressive. On top of that, we have two gaurds who are as aggressive as it gets if allowed to be.

Play action derived from the above allows Russ games that are as easy as it gets. That lob pass to Dickson was a perfect illustration of it. They were so concerned about the run game that no one even covered him. Russ can get deeper pass drops due to PA because the defense actually has to take a second to read run vs just setting out to get the QB from jump. We're rolling him out again to give him space to see downfield and put him in a position to improvise. Russ' movement is now much more controlled instead of chicken with the head cut off. He's now able to put up historically efficient games again because, not only does he not have to do it himself, his job is now as easy as it gets for a QB.

The defense WAS hung out to dry by one of the most horribly inconsistent offenses. 3 n outs constantly, not throwing on time, not throwing at all, HUGE losses for sacks due to lack of pocket presence and retreating 15 yards for 2nd and 25 or 3rd and 25, etc. Now the drives are controlled and sustained, we might get a 3rd and 7 or 8 every now and then, but we're now working mostly with 3rd and short and our 3rd downs are being completed at a really high percentage. This makes it so the defense doesn't have to be on the field all game after one sorry 3 n out after another. The defense now has an actual ally in the offense instead of a faction that might give you 3 to 5 big plays here and there and a handful of field goals and maybe a TD if you're lucky.

Not only is the PA poppin, the actual runs themselves are giving a lot more options and less brittle distance to downs on 2nd and 3rd. I guess there are two questions: How hard is it to get to a spot with seemingly dominant rushing game (2017 lingers in my memory) and is it worth it chasing it down (it seems like it is at the moment). It's nice to be able to lean on something we seem good at rather than having to fall back on a Plan B of a pass heavy attack that the org from coach down to player doesn't really get as well as their Plan A.

I guess there is something to be said to a commitment to an ideal if you can get pretty darn close to your ideal. Although I really hope that if we run into a wall against some opponent, we find ways to overcome it.

To be honest the Seahawks have not beaten a team with a winning record yet. Yes they almost beat the Rams. The next 4 games vs Chargers @ Rams vs Packers @ Panthers will show this team who they are. 2-2 at minimum is required to remain in contention for a playoff berth. The next 4 opponents are playoff caliber teams. Seahawks need to beat those types.

Well, the Chargers have beaten: The Titans, Browns, Raiders, Niners, Bills.

4 of those 5 teams are horrible. And the Titans are average.

So, a new wrinkle with the running game as if late is part of Russ' continuing mental development, which Pete confirmed a few weeks back. Russ is now switching play side in the run game as well making hot reads for quick hitting runs. You see this when the RB flips sides in shotgun quite easily. If it's inside zone read to one side of the center and the D is stacking that side, he flips it, the RB moves to the other side of Russ, and the OL just flips their fits as well. Easy stuff really and all it takes is a quick headcount. If there is 4 on 5 left of center and 4 on 4 right of center, you audible to the better matchup. Not sure why we haven't done more of this in the past, but I'm assuming it's pure coaching preference. I've also seen him swap to a quick hitting trap on the fly.

It's a bit different in the passing game though or rather harder. The WRs can't always hear you. You even see RBs walk up to the line call so they can hear and they're only 5 yards away so you know a WR can't hear. Then you have to have hand signals, which is common, but you're limited to how many you can have and they have to change from week to week or you might get pick sixed.

I don't know that see this running game being completely stopped, but if it ever is they will have to sell out to do it...and if they go that route then we just go over the top like Stallone.

Haven't beat anyone with a winning record helps.

Seriously, they have returned to their winning formula.

A little, maybe a lot, of credit should go to those who are no longer here, the ego inflated super stars that are now down the road. Talented, but complacent, too much me me and not enough team lately. We are left with young, talented, team players.
Those dearly departed aren't exactly lighting up the high light reels in their new home, either..

They are young and tasted success and are feeding on it, they are hungry to prove themselves and now have the coaches once again that have the formula to coach them to their strengths. rather then reshape them into something they are not.

It's not that their "hot right now". It's team building. Improving and growing together. Their closing out October and going into November. It's the process.

Pounding the rock, eating the clock, Russ locked in. Stingy defense creating turnovers and not giving up a lot of points. Much better coaching. And it isn't a coincidence that when they replaced the drama queens, that this team is starting to really gel. They are going to get a lot better, that's the exciting part. Especially when this was supposed to be an average season at best.
