Since Quinn to the Falcons seems to be a forgone conclusion, who do you think will be the next defensive coordinator? Will we promote within?

Clayton was they'd probably hire from within, probably Kris Richard....

So probably someone we've never heard of.

I believe they will promote within - and I think Rocky Seto has the inside track. The fact they changed his title from Asst. Secondary Coach to Defensive Passing Game Coordinator this past off-season speaks volumes concerning their desire to keep Seto on the staff (may have had some DC opportunities last off-season), but potentially a belief in his ability and skill set to take over the DC position. Essentially, Seto jumped Richard in the coaching hierarchy

I thought I heard on one of the 710 ESPN radio podcasts where they thought Rocky Seto (A former Linebacker) was a good candidate.

But John Clayton mentioned Kris Richard and it seems to me that the best Defensive Coordinators have been former Defensive Backs (Todd Bowles, Dick LeBeau)

Seto or Richard seems natural. I could also see Travis Jones getting the nod.

One other thought - I think Quinn takes Travis Jones with him to Atlanta, and that will likely be the only coach to go along with him. Jones came to Seattle with Quinn, and they seem to have a great relationship. Seattle pays their coaches more than most other teams. Possibly he takes Manuel as Secondary Coach - Seto, Richard, Norton all seem very loyal to Pete

I'd hate to lose Manuel. That dude is a future Head Coach in this league.

I think it will be Richard, though apparently Quinn is taking someone with him and naming him DC of the Falcons so will be interesting to see what unfolds.

I'd promote Richard, just to keep Quinn from taking him.

This.

The players seem to really love Richard, seems to be a great choice............or Norton, he's earned it as well.

If Quinn is taking someone, its probably Travis Jones.

Jones is the only hand-picked coach by Quinn.

All the other guys were on roster:

Seahawks have 3 in house candidates that can be promoted:

Rocky Seto
Kris Richards
Ken Norton Jr

And they all make sense...

Seto was a former DC for Carroll and he isn't locked into a coaching position, he's more of a specialist coordinator for the Pass Defense.

Richards has a lot of respect and the L.O.B. support him. If Richards gets promoted, Seahawks already have Marquand Manuel in the wings to take over the DBs if Rocky Seto doesn't.

Norton is intense and I feel he would be the best for the job with Pete in his ear. He's more of big voice but you can't deny the results he has gotten from the LBer corps. Seahawks quietly have one of the most underrated LBer corps in the NFL and they can do it all plus tackling, plus coverage, and plus pass-rush. So he's a good coach too as well as a big voice.

But a lot of peeps here have said Norton doesn't want to become a DC.

If Quinn leaves though which seems likely from all the reports...

I don't think this defense loses a beat... Seahawks just have a good core of veterans/young leaders secured:

Earl Thomas
Kam Chancellor
Richard Sherman
Bobby Wagner
KJ Wright
Michael Bennett
Brandon Mebane
Cliff Avril

That's 8 of your 11 starters.

But if Quinn does leave and takes Jones with him... that D-Line spot looks like it will be a big one to fill.

I'm not going to research the names out their that can fill the roles but I do know their is a guy in Buffalo, who is kind of green behind the ears but has his hand in coaching up some pretty elite lines (NYJ 2013) and (BUF 2014) by the name of Anthony Weaver.

Never mind it looks like Weaver re-joined Pettine in Cleveland.

Also, I've now just read the Quinn will keep current Falcon's DL Bryan Cox, so its likely that Travis Jones will be DC there, or the Seahawks will keep Jones and one of the other 3 coaches will become Quinn's new DC. Quinn should just leave the Seahawks be and hire Jim Schwartz if he's still available, lol.

That's 8 of your 11 starters.

SLB Bruce Irvin and DT Tony McDaniel are also signed through 2016, so that's 10/11 starters locked up. Bobby Wagner has yet to sign an extension.

Byron Maxwell is the only defensive free agent they are likely to lose. Tharold Simon, Marcus Burley, and Jeremy Lane will need to replace Maxwell.

We are in an envious position on defense.

So basically what I'm getting from all this is no one sees an outside candidate.

Is Everything
Nope.

I think it's Seto. Richard would be my other guess but I think between the two the other may very well end up following Quinn as his DC.
