Coach Carroll (Monday):
http://www.seahawks.com/video/2015/09/2 ... conference

SUMMARY:
Difficult 0-2 start but it's one that challenges us. We are close to doing really good things. We came out of this game healthy for the most part. We protected the pass much better in this game than we did in the first game. There was improvement coming out of half time. DeShawn Shead's background as a corner allowed him to play well as a strong safety against Green Bay's receivers. His versatility is very unusual. They still have the flexibility to move Richard Sherman inside depending on the matchup. Carroll is not sharing information from the league about Britt's fumble recovery. Losing the lead at the end of games has not happened much in Carroll's history, so that has been unusual the last three games, including the Super Bowl. Not finishing when we had the chance to win was the most disappointing thing about the first two games.

Carroll is disappointed in the lack of touches for Jimmy Graham. He thought the five catches for Graham in the first game with a TD was a pretty good day, but it was a little slow at the beginning. We were trying to go to him on four of the first five passes . . . it's just the way it worked out. It's not time to panic. We will get it worked out. There were a bunch of calls where it could have happened (which obviously did NOT work). It takes the coaches a while to figure out things in terms of packages. This is not unusual. Green Bay's defense was loaded up to stop Marshawn, so there were opportunities to get Graham involved, as well as to get Russell to keep the ball on the zone reads. There was one play where the ball was supposed to go to Graham, but Russell saw that the defense was misaligned and thought there would be an open receiver on the other side. Unfortunately, the defender got in position to prevent the play.

Aaron Rodgers' movement was impressive, drawing Earl Thomas out of position on some plays, leading to the TD allowed between Thomas and Sherman. Sherman was similarly pushed outside by Rodgers' scrambling, leading to the PI call. This was as challenging a game for the defense as you are going to get.

The pass protection continues to improve. We have to do a better job taking advantage of those opportunities. Without question we protected the passer way better in this game, and that’s a big positive for us. You saw us rely on that in the second half. We wanted to come out and see if we move the ball throwing it a little bit, and that happened. That was really generated because we had looked pretty solid in the first half in pass protection, and we just needed to get a little bit of momentum going, and it turned for us in the second half.

CHANCELLOR SUMMARY:
Kam says he has always been a guy who follows his heart. Watching the losses hurt him as a leader. After praying on it, he thinks it is time to put the business aside until the end of the season. It felt good being around the guys, making the calls, and going through walk throughs. Kam knows he could have made the difference in those first two losses. He has not taken a day off from his workouts during his holdout. He knows he can play on Sunday. It's been a smooth transition back to the field for him. He forgives the fans, thinks they are forming opinions without knowing the facts. We are all human. He looks forward to playing in front of the 12s and hearing them roar.

Pete Carroll press conference (Wednesday):
http://www.seahawks.com/video/2015/09/2 ... conference

CARROLL SUMMARY:
It's great to have Kam back. He's a great man and has been an incredible part of our team. We missed him, and he missed us. Everything about this program is about looking to the present. It's exciting to get back to CenturyLink. This is the start of getting back on track. The approach and the thought is that Kam will play on Sunday, but we will take it one day at a time. Kam is in great shape and looks razor sharp. He's 226 lbs with 6% body fat. We want Kam to be a Seahawk for a very long time. Team has received him with open arms, which doesn't mean it wasn't difficult for him not to be here. Carroll will not talk about the contract or potential fines. We have created a little more flexibility than we have had in the past with DeShawn Shead showing the ability to play corner, free safety, and strong safety. Kam knows the system inside and out, and the system was built based on what Kam can do. He is a critical part of the communications and is the best in the world at doing what he does. Kam is eligible for the exempt list for two weeks, and they have not figured that out yet. Carroll's goal is to make sure every player becomes the best player that he can be.

We haven't quite found the right balance for Jimmy Graham, system wise. It's not about Jimmy Graham; it's about how the team functions. We need him to be a factor, because he's an amazing factor if you create it. He looks at it the same way as figuring out the pass rush rotation or figuring out the right secondary combination. Carroll thinks Russell will be more comfortable working with Graham over time, including using his range.

At the college level, the best big athletes tend to go to the defensive line. Those guys who might not be good enough to play defensive line in the NFL, but are smart enough and big enough, are best served with a move to the offensive line. The shift in the college game to a lateral game does not lend itself to the type of football we like to play in the NFL, so you might as well move the better athlete to the offensive line, i.e. Sweezy, Nowak, etc. Nowak improved as the 2nd game went on.

Tharold Simon is still out. He played a little in the game, but his response to playing was not good. Steven Terrell is pretty sore and won't practice. We will see if Kam's presence adds a leadership presence. He is totally unique in the way he plays the game. Carroll compared it to what happened when Bobby Wagner returned to the field from injury last year. He is not counting on that happening, but you hope it has that kind of effect.

PC today.

I didn't hear anything that bothered me. I'm very encouraged moving forward in regards to the Kam situation.

I admire PC for his philosophies and the way he approaches/handles things.
I'm stoked that we have the Bears coming as a warm up if you will, and I'm so looking forward to watching a statement being made the following week @ MNF.

Thanks for the synopsis. Pete is one seriously glass half full guy. It freaks me out given I'm the total opposite mindset and can't fathom how to even attempt to think his way let alone own it like he does.

Pete Carroll press conference (Friday):
http://www.seahawks.com/video/2015/09/2 ... conference

SUMMARY:
This is an important week. We have to get things started. Not pleased with how it began, but we can't do anything about that. Team had a fantastic week of practice. It's really important to get things started at home.

Big receivers do not have to be as far away from defenders to throw them the ball. Jimmy Graham has great leaping ability and catching range. Graham is just trying to make his pitch to get the ball more, being a competitor.

The team is fairly healthy. Marshawn Lynch is dealing with a calf injury. He will run tomorrow to see if he is OK to go on Sunday. My impression: Pete did not seem too concerned about this.

Mike Morgan will play. He is a core guy on special teams. Tharold Simon has a dislocated toe and will not play this week. Carroll says Simon is on track to be back next week.

They haven't figured out yet how much Kam Chancellor will play on Sunday. They will make the decision about whether he will play tomorrow. Chancellor certainly could play all four quarters, but they haven't figured out yet whether that is the right thing to do.

Offensively, Carroll has always wanted to run the football and be explosive. Significant plays determine the outcomes of drives. We need to get back to being great at generating significant plays.

Carroll adapts the defensive scheme to the players they have. Kam and Earl Thomas are completely different players. Using the unique qualities of the players is something they are always trying to do, but it is particularly true of the safety position.
