Historically, has RB been the Seahawks best position?

Seems like we always have a pretty damn good one.

Sherman Smith 76-82
Curt Warner 83-89
John L Williams (FB, but ran like a RB) 86-93
Chris Warren 90-97
Ricky Watters 98-01
Shaun Alexander 00-07
Marshawn Lynch 10-15

Dark years were 2008-2010, with Julius Jones and Justin Forsett carrying the load.

We had a pretty good run of WR's too, but I think it kind of ended after 2008. Hopefully Baldwin and Lockett are bringing us back to the glory days.

Largent 76-89.
Blades 88-98
Galloway 95-99
Darrell Jackson (I think he's really underrated by Seahawk fans) 2000-06
Bobby Engram 01-08

In general we seem to go fewer years between good RBs than our other positions.

It's probably not a stretch to say that RB has been our best position.

Can anyone smell the "off-season acquisition" in the air?

With the news of Lynch's exit spreading around, seems to me the FO will be answering a number of calls from agents whose clients will have an interest in getting a look.

I predict a signing.

Who would be some potential older free agents who would be good candidates to rent their services out for a year for a chance to win a championship?

I don't know if the Seahawks would be interested in that, but I could definitely see some players interested. I think people have been mentioning the center for Cleveland as a possible championship chaser. I think if you're a player of that mindset, you look at Seattle and New England first (this is where I think Cam hurt his team a lot by not diving for that ball).

If Fred Jackson wants to continue, I'd be happy paying him the $615k he made this past season to be the primary 3rd down back.

Assuming Jackson retires, Matt Forte is probably the ideal. Great hands, plug him in as the 3rd down back and give him 5-8 carries a game.
If they want someone to challenge Rawls, outside of Doug Martin or Lamar Miller, who I don't think the Hawks would pay, I'm not sure there's another obvious FA out there.

Alfred Morris might be available.

I think the list extends far beyond those guys even. Former LOB-ers like Browner and Maxwell. Guys like Hamlin and Boulware and Ken Lucas had short careers but were impact players for us. Jordan Babineaux was the Jermain Kearse of his day, making the most of every opportunity. Older players like Paul Moyer and Patrick Hunter.

Our Defensive Linemen have had probably more than their fair share of excellent players:

Cortez Kennedy, of course.

Jacob Greene
Micheal Sinclair
Micheal Bennett
Sam Adams
Jeff Bryant
Joe Nash
Micheal McCrary

I also happened to like

Rocky Bernard
Keith Millard
Phillip Daniels

John Harris and I thought Keith Simpson was pretty good back then with Brown and Easley.

Its not sexy, but I think kicker has been the Seahawks position of overall strength... and not just with the club..look how many ex Seahawk kickers go on to super long careers...

after that DB if you generalize, and then RB.

Could we throw Strong and Weaver into that as well?

Sherman is listed?I used to get so pissed off watching him because he didn't do much running,I was a kid so I don't know if that was line related and/or because Zorn sucked.I also wanted us to keep Tony Dorsett, imagine that list had he not been traded off

No Pro Bowl WR in Seattle since Blades in 89. That is a pretty long drought at that position.

I personally think of strong more as a 6th linemen then a rb. We can throw weaver in if we can also throw in your boy Julius jones.
