Third kicker since 1970 to kick three game winning field goals in one season!

Also he went 22-27 on fg's.

House $ 22-28.

Happy he hit the last one, I didn't want to go into overtime

Hauschka is definitely the superior kicker. They saved roughly $1.5 million per season by going with Blair Walsh and Janikowski, instead of matching Hauschka’s contract. Janikowski has not been the disaster that Walsh was.

I tend to think it is better to use a few more assets on lowly paid positions than the NFL average because you can get so much value for a little bit more money/draft capital. Lowly paid positions include punter, kicker, fullback, to a lesser extent safety, interior offensive linemen, blocking TE, NT, OLB in a 4-3, etc.

They drafted Michael Dickson slightly higher than other teams would draft a punter, and they ended up with the best punter in the league. They also kept the cap hit low because he’s on a rookie salary, which kind of undermines my point.

Not sure he was "definitely superior" if his stats were basically the same?

Janikowski missed 3xps. Hausch one.

But janikowski made 48 to just 25.

Dont know it will all play out, but janikowski really has been fine overall.

Hauschka is seven years younger than Janikowski and is ranked 7th all-time in career field goal percentage:

Janikowski is ranked 49th.

Look at this year...

Which is the most relevant

I think 10/10 GMs would take Hauschka over Janikowsk, right now. Neither has had a good statistical year, neither horrible, but Hauschka is clearly the younger and more reliable option.

But he costs a lot more otherwise he would still be here.

Clearly not... since the Hawks have Janikowski

Point teally is that kicking is erratic and janikowski has been fine

I imagine if Schneider could go back, he would keep Hauschka rather than save around $1.5 million, which is a relatively small amount of cap savings.

Walsh obviously missed several kicks that Hauschka had a greater chance of making.

Janikowski has missed three extra points and two field goals of 39 or fewer yards. Hauschka missed just one XP this year and was perfect from inside of 40 yards. He attempted more long field goals for a desperate Bills offense, while the Seahawks have eschewed several long field goal attempts this year.

The decision to not to match Hauschka’s contract offer likely cost the Seahawks two or three wins over the the last two seasons.

But the op is talking about this year.. where while janikowski has missed 3exps to hauschs 1, hes also attempted twice as many. And id imagine if janikowski replaced haush instead if walsh it may have been different

The numbers indicate little to no difference in the two. Janikowski has been fine this season.

Im sure they will have a new kicker next season.

The uncertainty is a problem. Rather than have Hauschka, an historically reliable kicker, they have had to continually roll the dice with questionable castoffs. Walsh had the foot yips. Janikowski has back issues. What will next year’s kicker bring? It’s T.B.D. and just further highlights what a bad decision that was with the benefit of hindsight. Will Janiwkowki’s back hold up in the playoffs? We can only hope because there is no good alternative (sans, Dickson drop kicks).

Hauschka has been equal to janikowski. His reliability is an issue as well.

Vikings drafted a kicker, cut him after 3 weeks, then he has a great season with the Raiders.

There is no real certainty in kicking it seems

Careful with those wishful comparisons. Hauschka was roughed up by a Jets player first week of December. Since then his ability to kick anything over about 35 yards is gone. The ball drops to the ground short of the uprights.

What hurts is the kicker Janikowski beat out.in the preseason made the pro bowl. He went 33-36 and 6-7 at 50+

Hauschka has made more 50+ yard field goals this season than Janikowski.

But not anymore. It remains to be seen if he recovers his form in the off-season.

What is forgotten is Hauschka in his last year with the Hawks was not doing
what he did in prior years and looked like he was losing something..
The Hawks decided not find out and were wrong but there clearly were
reasons to be concerned after that season.

Like I said elsewhere, Jan is basically a league average kicker. I'd still like to see him replaced next year, but I'm not obsessed by the idea. With the offense scoring more TDs, the kicker is a bit less important than it was last season.
