The Seahawks rank first on defense in yards and interceptions. That's only happened three times in NFL history and all three teams went to the Super Bowl/NFL Championship Game. The 2002 Buc and 63 Bears won it. The 82 Dolphins lost.

Seahawks also rank first in scoring defense. The defense has given up a league low 18 TDs (14 passing, 4 rushing) and only 22 FGs.

If you do the math, Seahawks D not including ST only have given up 13.8 yards per game.

Panthers also have given up a league low 18 TDs but 26 FGs.

Edit: Also, it would do well to remember a few teams scored TDs in garbage time after the Seahawks pulled a majority of their starters.

Seahawks also lead the NFL Yards Allowed Per Play at 4.5 yards.

People want to complain about the Rush Defense but it now ranks 10th in the NFL, yeah opponents are averaging like 4.1 yards per attempt but considering we have the best pass defense in the NFL Opponents have to get yards somewhere. And they still aren't getting much in the bigger picture. All they are doing is running down the clock and limiting their opportunities to score. Which will favor the Seahawks 9 out of 10 times.

In this NFL world of league parity and tailoring the rules for offenses to be consistently high-scoring the Seahawks Defense is establishing itself to be one of the best ever in NFL history and at least the best of its era when the league went to a 32 team format.

Seahawks D also lead the league in QB passer rating against at a cool 65.5.

The next best team is San Fran at 73.4 (+ 8.0).

League average is 85.0, Seahawks are -19.5

In the thread, were people have said this could be the best secondary in NFL history... they arguably could be correct considering again this is the age of offense and that most teams have a quality QBs in place.

Yeah, the YPC is misleading and people who have not actually watched SEA games try to point to it as an issue but they're quickly disarmed when you point out that the team has only given up 24 points on the ground (all year).

Another interesting stat for you...

Seattle is 3rd(t) worst in the league in 1st downs given up on penalties with 35. Imagine how many yards/points may have been prevented, had a few of those penalties not occurred.

Defenses who have equal or more penalties for first downs... DEN, STL and TB (none of which are even in the top 10 in scoring defense).

Interesting thought as well and we've seen plenty of points scored off drives extended by penalties. More than we would like.

I'll expand:

Seahawks rank 7th in the NFL in 1st Downs allowed.

The 6 teams ahead are:

Team, TTL 1st Downs Allowed/ Total Plays (1stD by Penalties) and the %.
Panthers 238/825 (26) 28.9%
Texans 240 /839 (32) 28.6%
49ers 240/ 879 (23) 27.3 %
Ravens 242/904 (23) 26.8%
Saints 246/837 (20) 29.4%
Bengals 255/928 (28) 27.5%
Seahawks 255/870 (35) 29.3%

All but 1 of these teams rank in the top 7 in scoring defense.

Seahawks 1st
Panthers 2nd
49ers 3rd
Saints 5th
Bengals 6th
Ravens 7th
Texans 25th

Its crazy that the Seahawks have given up close to the top 1st down percentage allowed out of the teams above plus the most 1st downs by penalties yet still have the best D in the NFL whether measuring by Total Yards or Scoring.

Seahawks D are simply some bad ass mofos.
