Kind of interesting parallels in terms of the two teams' records while rebuilding.

Johnson took over a Cowboys team that had gone 7-9, 7-8 and 3-13 the previous three seasons (avg. 5.67 wins). After he was hired, the Cowboys went 1-15, 7-9, 11-5 (won in the Wildcard; lost in the Divisional playoff game), then 13-3 with a Super Bowl win.

Pete took over a team that had gone 10-6, 4-12 and 5-11 in the previous three seasons (avg. 6.33 wins). After he was hired, the Hawks went 7-9, 7-9, 11-5 (won in the Wildcard; lost in the Divisional playoff game), then 13-3 with a Super Bowl win.

Jimmy's and Pete's years 2, 3 and 4 are identical in terms of wins. Jimmy and the 'boys won 2 Super Bowls in a row, then things got dicey between Crazy Jerry and Jimmy. I don't see Paul Allen ever interfering the way Jerry did (and still does).

The one thing that makes it harder for Pete is the salary cap. Jerry didn't have one to deal with.

If the Hawks can manage the cap, things look bright indeed.

I have been thinking this all season. This team reminds me most of the 1990's Cowboys... particularly on offense. A running team with a smart efficient QB that has solid tough receivers that tend to make explosive plays rather than put up gaudy stats.

But our Seattle D is more intimidating.

imaho, Jimmy Johnson and Pete Carroll are the only coaches in history to win both a National Championship and a SuperB Owl.

That other guy was handed an elite Superbowl team that immediately went to shit after one season. But he can take pride in that he and Jerrah destroyed a perfectly good Superbowl team. Jimmy Johnson probably smiles in his sleep.

And both first Super Bowl wins were runaway victories.

Does this mean the Seahawks will have a come from behind victory against the Broncos in Super Bowl XLIX?

I agree. Switzer gets an asterisk. He was nothing but a babysitter; that team could have won with a pylon as coach.

To go along with that, Russell Wilson is very similar to Troy Aikman and their team in general. They had a strong running game, a great defense and a QB who made plays.

do you realize that Aikman only had 1 season in terms of passing yards better than Wilson?

Aikman best year : 1992 = 3,445-yards, 23- TD's,
Wilson best year : 2013 = 3,357-yards, 26- TD's.

The point is in terms of stats, Aikman would be considered a "game manager" today in the NFL, since the media is so fixated on passing yards. He never put up huge numbers and was reliant and a talented RB. Both teams were extremely balanced on offense. To me this is the perfect comparison to the 2013 Seahawks.

Aikman's best year in TD's
Aikman -

Aikman -

2 different eras, 2 different styles of play.

1992 - 1 QB over 3,500 passing yds - Marino - 4116

Aikmans 3,445 put him 4th in the league

2013 - 14 QB's over 3,800 yds, 2 over 5,000.

Wilson's 3,357 put him at 16th.

Aikman more of a pocket passer

Wilson much more mobile with ability to throw while moving.
