How long until the Seahawks are no longer special?

With the Browner signing in Foxboro, you get the idea that our style of defensive personel has officially begun its spread into our copycat league. Do you think that it will envelop our league and become second nature to have larger Corners? Im thinking it does, but I am not so sure how long that would take, as these players are a dime a dozen.

It will always be special because giving money to big corners just because they're big isn't good enough.

Pete Carroll did two things that will make it impossible for the NFL as a whole to emulate.

1. Get an all-universe FS to take pressure off everyone.
2. Be open to change based on player strengths instead of shoe horning them into the system.

As long as Pete is HC and in charge of personnel, I can't see anybody much less the whole league making his secondary look ordinary.

You mean it takes using said players correctly? Unlike Tampa Bay via a vis Revis? That's just silly.

lol and being able to build your own secondary instead of having to kiss the feet of your GM. But yeah not rocket science, yet so rare.

Got to admit Belichick is sneaky and would be one that might actually get it I still say he fails because like everyone else he builds his defense front to back while PC builds his back to front.

PC has a long track record of assembling top secondaries in the NFL as a position coach, DC, and now HC. Bellychick could do an admirable job but he ain't outPeteing Pete when it comes to DB's, that's for sure.

IMO lack of #2 was Holmgren's biggest liability and as big a reason as anything else that the Seahawks declined so rapidly following XL.

Tampa Bay was always special long after everyone copied them. It's still called the Tampa 2 to this day. Bill Walsh started the West Coast Offense and SF is still special for that even though it was copied dozens and dozens of times.

Seattle will always be known for starting the trend. You hear it already: "They are trying to find Seattle corners". They will always be special in that way. Carroll brought a new breed to the NFL. Whenever someone does something first, it is special to that place regardless of how many people copy it.

I'm pretty confident our ability to identify and develop is what keeps us ahead of the game. Starts at the top, and only a couple teams have those kinda smarts. As long as we have Pete I think we can be 'special' every year. He is never content. we evolve and become even more special because of that. Teams might always end up chasing us in some way. Cough dynasty cough maybe homerish cough.

The corner thing is over the top. You need people that can play football, can't just throw some tall guys out there and call them a cb. They are rare. Most have to play safety. The people that develop and scheme well for these players are also rare.

Also, Not everyone believes in the same scheme. Lots of success with other schemes as well. Not all will copy.

Lastly, you can't copy our philosophy and you can't copy heart. These things make us special.

Your question is not so much about an individual, but more about the Seahawks current style of football right?

There is one X-factor that many people are missing: team mentality and team love. That is something VERY hard to duplicate.

How else do you inspire those that were deemed not good enough to draft early? Or the unwanted from other teams rosters? If it was just one or two players, that might be coincidence. But it is an entire team.

Marshawn is the best example. If you see this guy, he appreciates the respect and team love he gets and responds in kind. He plays not just for himself but for the entire team and for his coach.

Another great example: team defense. Guys really rooting for each other. Guys preparing together giving us one of the best route recognition team defenses.

That kind of mindset lifts someone to a whole new level. And it comes from leadership: Russell, Coach, JS, etc. So as long as the leadership is there (and Russell Wilson: a big part of that) the Seahawks will have something many teams won't have regardless of the individuals that get signed.
