Old-time (at least, people my age) will recognize the name Dick Trickle, the coolest driver in NASCAR. Once lit a cigarette while driving his race car with his knees during a caution lap, on TV no less. Dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot at age 71. Along with Mack Strong, he had one of the best names in any sport!

He qualified for the Indy 500 several times besides Nascar. He was in the race our local legend Tom Sneva "The Gas Man" won in 83 I believe it was. As I recall he was the owner of a large corporation that allowed him the money to compete tho he never got in the "upper" level of competition. A great and funny guy tho. sadly he must not have been able to handle it when the cheering stopped.  _________________  Still missing you everyday pal.
