Bob Condotta: Where does Russell Wilson rank in Seattle sports history?

Both of Wilson's negotiations for contract extensions with the Seahawks in the summer of 2015 and the spring of 2019 were far more contentious than many realized.

That 2019 contract came a few months after Wilson's camp bristled at reports that general manager John Schneider had been scouting Wyoming quarterback Josh Allen, a year after it was reported the Seahawks would have drafted Patrick Mahomes if he had fallen to them in the 2017 draft.

The relationship seemed to increasingly wither from there, with Wilson making surprising remarks a year ago about his frustration with his pass protection and a report that said he would approve a trade to one of four teams.

{The end} arrived shockingly and suddenly Tuesday, and the emotions evoked for all might take a while to cool.

But as the returns of the likes of Wilkens, Griffey and Ichiro proved, time heals all wounds. One day Wilson and the Seahawks surely will gather for his uniform No. 3 to take its rightful place in the rafters of Lumen Field.

The key take away here is the russ stuff aside they eyed Mahomes and Allen who are both great qbs, so they do seem adept at finding talent at that position. Bodes well for the future and who they may target as the long term solution

THought this was good info too from Greg Bishop. It sounds to me like all of this comes down to Russell's pride.

MIKE SALK -- Hour 4-Greg Bishop and Brock Huard

Senior writer for Sports Illustrated Greg Bishop joins Mike Salk to discuss Russell Wilson's time here in Seattle, whether Russ can be a culture changer in Denver and his recent story on Aaron Donald. Then

Hour 2-Biggest wants & concerns for Mariners fans? Brock Huard

Salk hosted a twitter space discussion with Shannon last night and outlines the main concerns/questions of the participants: 1.) M's getting Story/Bryant/run producer, 2.) More pitching, 3.) Leadership/replacing Seager, and 4.) Payroll.

Salk says if Russell Wilson dramatically improves in his rushing yardage last year, it's going to upset him because we didn't see that from him this year.

He also wants the Seahawks to look at Kaepernick, Minshew, and Tyler Huntley. Brock Huard disagrees with Salk's QB thoughts.

I'm on board with that :2thumbs:

Exactly this. They were in on both Mahomes and Josh Allen. This gives me confidence in them drafting a QB if they choose to do so. They were also high on Cousins when they drafted Wilson. Cousins has been a very good QB in the NFL too.

But I thought all the reports of contention between Russ and the FO were just made up for clicks?

So let me get this straight.

You're going to listen to the same media that told us that there was no chance of Wilson getting traded, but then suddenly does?

The Seattle media is garbo. They are PR mouth pieces for the team. They do not ask tough questions, they only spew out what the teams tells them to spew.

They are worthless. Literally the worst sports media in the country. They have zero credibility after covering this Russell Wilson trade situation.

There is no Bob Ryan or Peter Gammons working in Seattle that will call the team out or hold their feet to the fire.

Yes, them and others. Greg Bishop, Paul Moyer, you should have heard Tim Hasselbeck go off last week.

March 3, 2022

Hour 3-Tim Hasselbeck, John Clayton's Morning Drive

After spending the entire NFL season talking with Matt Hasselbeck and hearing quips about his brother, we finally spoke to Tim and heard the reasoning behind the comments about trading Russell Wilson that made national news last week.

Salk takes time to address the comments and why it still doesn't make sense before getting a cap-space explanation from John Clayton's Morning Drive.

Do we have doubts that Hawks would be in happier circumstances now if we had Allen or Mahomes as our QB? John was doing his job guys.
