Usually, when the extreme shift is on, the outfielders reverse shift to avoid giving up free extra base hits. Boston is playing with fire, here. They probably did it more for show than actual strategy.

Yeah this I understand and agree with.
And I agree with @sutz too however I think where people are upset is like “the spirit of the rule” thing. And you know now that bostons going to do the MLB will probably overall reword it or something sooner or later to eliminate that.

Childish overall but whatever. Batters need to learn to just bat all over. Imagine a dude who hits left consistently, defense shifts all left leaving right wide open and then smashes it right. That’ll be a hilarious backfire.
