Did it really make it worse? All he did was pretty much hand the ball off from what I saw. And it's not like he got ordered back into the game against his will.

He completed two passes with a torn UCL. Plus those right side handoffs aren’t nothing to someone whose just had his entire elbow ligament ruptured.

Afaik what happened with The 9ers should be a caution to them as well as to other teams and the league itself. Just bring back the rule saying teams can dress an extra qb if they want to without it counting against the roster.

I could be wrong.

I haven't seen an accurate description of the injury. Could be unimalleolar, bimalleolar, or trimalleolar. If we knew the extent of the injury, we could speculate a little more.

It is not uncommon for people, especially athletes, to have hardware removed. The fact that it is being done now might give us a clue to the extent of the injury, and the type of repair.

On the left is a trimalleolar repair. Note the large screw connecting the two bones (tibia and fibula). This screw is necessary when there is disruption of the syndesmotic connection between the tibia and fibula. On the right is a more simple bimalleolar fracture repair.

If I was to put money on it. I would guess his repair included a long screw, holding the tibia and fibula together. That tends to be more painful than the ones that are only in one bone, and sometimes can limit the range of motion a little.

That's just an educated guess, though.

This is a great guess as it’s educated. Trey spent five days in the hospital, he says, so that the pain management could get right. Just speaking as a patient, that sounds like I’ve narcotics to me.

sucks for purdy. seems like a good dude.

so what is the 49ers plan?

garrapolo again? :ROFLMAO:

they should consider trading for rodgers and having rodgers restructure his deal. 49ers window is these next 1-2 seasons. it took them 5-6 years building that roster. can't waste it by relying on trey lance of all QBs.
Sure they can.

What’s your opinion on Lance’s health? Jan 2, undergoes a second surgery on ankle to take out stabilizers that were irritating him. Usually when they insert hardware, isn’t that person expected to have it for life or a replacement part?
I’m a vet and we take plates out after the bone has healed a lot.

With a complete UCL tear I was expecting tommy John procedure I have more experience with baseball players and it’s usually 1-2 years for recovery. A lot depends on how motivated the player is during rehab which is can be brutal.

A small history of recent baseball players

The way I heard it explained is that tommy John surgery is needed when the UCL has degraded from chronic use such as pitching and the tear is secondary to the chronic degradation. There is not a lot of viable ligament tissue to hold the repair so tissue is harvested else where in the body

Purdys tear was traumatic so the tissue should be viable to hold the sutures and repair. This is a 6 month recovery. Of course they can always have setbacks

Their window is closing, fast. A key injury or two, free agents leaving, bad drafts, it snowballs. The Hawks window may open soon depending on this draft.

Just FYI....that "report" on Purdy is totally bogus.

Could he need Tommy John? Possibly.

However, the "report" the OP is referring to is a doctor on the Dan Patrick show who has had zero access to the MRI or the patient and is just guessing.

Jimmys ACL and injury this year were scrambling plays . Not play design . Also think some players don't feel pain the same way. How the heck is Mahomes playing with a high ankle sprain? Jimmy had a high ankle sprain against the Seahawks and was out for 6 weeks!

This is all true in that it’s hard to blame a specific qb injury on Shan, but he Has a propensity to keep hurt qbs out there.
