Pretty much a foregone conclusion. He's no longer the #1 go-to receiver having been replaced in that role by Puka Nacua, and he's been prone to injury, and as was mentioned, he's on the wrong side of 30. No way can the Rams carry his contract.

Kupp had what is arguably the best season ever for a wide receiver, having won the triple crown (receptions, total yards, TD receptions) and the SB MVP in the 2021 season. And, he comes from my alma mater.

Smart. They're doing what we should have done with Lockett years ago.
I love what Tlock brought , but he wasn’t bringing much in return.

Kupp is one of my favorite players. Always hated he was on the rams but he is a shell of his former self. Hope he gets the hell out of the division. But what a great receiver

Kupp is due $20M in 2025, which includes a guaranteed roster bonus of $7.5M in March. Most likely he won't be traded before then and the Rams will be on the hook for that $7.5M. Whether the Rams, or any other team, will want him at $12.5M is a more interesting proposition.

No one's trading for that contract. He'll play somewhere in 2025 but he'll be cut by the Rams.
Cutting him is a bad option. They'd save just $7M on the cap, $15M spread over 2 years if he's a post June 1 cut.

The other option they have besides cutting and trading is to re-work his deal to a more manageable amount.

His $7.5M roster bonus is guaranteed. Overthecap says $5M of the remaining $12.5M is also guaranteed, (Spotrac does not - although they have an additional $5M showing as dead money). If $5M of the salary is guaranteed there's almost no chance of Kupp being cut - unless he's worth less than $7.5M. At $7.5M there's little point in the Rams seeking a trade.

Things like this make me realize how time just blows by. I remember seeing Kupp as a rookie receiver who was shockingly good. And that feels like 3 years ago o_O.
I know, right? He still seems like the new addition to the Rams. Life in the NFL is measured in dog years.

In Kupp's case, he lost a couple of years too because he didn't come into the league until he was 24.

Thanks for the specifics. I knew that cutting him wasn't a very good option. And you're right, there won't be a lot of takers for an aging WR at $7.5M. Their best option is to try to re-negotiate his contract. He still has some rubber left on the tires if he can stay healthy.

Spotrac has somewhat clarified the numbers discrepancy with overthecap. Essentially Kupp is guaranteed $5M in either roster bonus or salary. Kupp is due a $7.5M roster bonus 5 days into the new NFL year. No-one values Kupp at $20M or above. I don't believe the Rams think Kupp is worth $12.5M so they will want him gone before the $7.5M roster bonus date. That way they only lose the guaranteed $5M. If another team values Kupp in excess of $15M the Rams will be willing to pay whatever is left of the $20M in excess of the trading team's valuation, (and swap future 7th round picks along with Kupp). If no team is willing to take Kupp at $15M I expect him to be cut. There are pluses and minuses to cutting him with a Post June 1 designation which make that option a very marginal decision.
