Never mind. I'm talking about big picture, not just this year.

No I caught that
But your comment was voiced in frustration in regards to a Drew Lock acquisition. Which would (perhaps) have relevance to what we do in this draft, but no bearing whatsoever to what we do in future drafts

You take a chance on a College guy, you make an educated decision with a young Vet who has played in the NFL, system may not have suited his talents, lousy line for protection can skew numbers and performance, but how he processes things and his leadership and composure at the NFL level as well as is he coachable and does he do film study all are able to be evaluated in the pro level guys. Not a bad way to find someone really.

Also the rate of coaching and Coordinator turnover these days can make it hard to get a guy developed.

I think people are being too quick to assume this signing changes our plans at all. Does Lock's deal even have any guaranteed money on it?

I don't think id call him a "proven backup". He has only won two of his last ten starts and has been mostly terrible in those. He wasn't even the Giants' primary backup last season; he didn't come in until Devito got hurt. The league clearly doesn't value him highly. Despite salary cap increases, Lock drew virtually no interest and signed with us a month into free agency for half of what he signed for last year, despite being in what should be his prime. The team he spent all last season with decided to sign two head cases to decent contracts rather than bring him back into the mix for next to nothing.

If there's someone in the draft they like, I can't imagine the very little they're paying Lock (if he even has any guaranteed money) would change anything if that player is available at a good spot. We're really not committed to anything.

Agreed, this is just a smart move imo. If the right guy they like falls this does not prevent them from selecting him.
Also it's Sam Howells last year. So he will probably be signed elsewhere next year and I would bet it will net the seahawks a comp pick.
So this signing is a cheap insurance plan that makes sense.

Sky Daddy has a Mohawk, come on Toff
Last summer, I spent almost 3 months in Europe, mainly Italy and France. We must have visited dozens of museums and cathedrals, Lord Jesus was Nordic-looking in most of the paintings and sculptures.

Not happy about this signing. He looked awful when he started for us and he looked awful last year when he wasn't against the worst corner in the league. I don't get Schneiders love affair for Drew Lock. He doesn't look like he improved one iota in NY or in Seattle.

Why not just go out and draft someone? Doesn't have to be in the first, second, hell even third round. At this point Lock is not even a developmental prospect. We haven't drafted someone since the 7th round of the 2018 NFL draft, Alex McGough. In Schneiders whole tenure here we've only drafted two QBs total, Wilson and McGough.

If Darnold doesn't work out, we're going to be left in an awkward position. We have no backup, no contingency. Schneider doesn't seem to have much faith in Sam Howell either if we're bringing in Lock.

What the hell are we even doing here? Darnold was a panic move, because Geno didn't want to come to the negotiation table. He was only a backup contingency. I don't get the vibe that Schneider views him as a franchise QB yet.

That's if he actually.......never mind. Don't feel like another timeout.

Go Hawks
I'm agreeing where you wanna go, if I got you right. I was amused by all the Nordic-looking Jesus on ancient artworks, especially those by ancient Italian artists. Not sure why they picked the Nordic look instead of an Italian, Germanic, or Middle Eastern look. Them dudes painted in mysterious ways. I am reaching for a drink now,

Don't just look at the faces. Look at the landscapes. The Italian paintings look like they're in the Po Valley. The German artists paint it like it's in Bavaria. The Flemish artists paint them in Flanders. On and on. :)

Meh, who knows who even makes the team. Still gotta' have a solid backup.
Here is the thing, I don't even view Lock as a solid backup. He looked awful here in Seattle when he started and in NY. We're not even trying to develop a young QB that can potentially take over. Other teams weren't exactly beating down their door to sign him either.

Just sharing observations, OK, not making any statements at all.

We got lucky in Florence, lol, the ticket lady at the Academia Gallery just waved us in without buying the necessary tickets, we were standing under David in 5 minutes. David was built to play safety in the league, though he might be teased a bit by other players.

But John loves him, with a capital B.

we're not?

Have you asked Howell, Hall and Plumlee what they were working on last season? I doubt they were playing duck duck goose all season. Just because they aren't "sexy" names doesn't mean we're not developing "nobody." They are currently actively developing 3 young QB's

We spent one night in Parma, a landscape quite similar to Valley?

Hall and Plumblee are marginal athletes. Every team in the NFL has practice squad QB's to help run the scout team. Both of these guys do not have NFL builds for a QB, Rhys Plumblee being designated as both a QB and WR. We did not draft these guys and they are virtually worthless as QB prospects. Marginal NFL talents if even that.

Howell wasn't drafted by John Schneider, he was a cast off from the Commanders. He may not even make it onto the roster because we signed Drew Lock. There were numerous reports of Howell looking very bad in TC last season.

We're not even trying to develop a QB here. If Hall and Plumblee are your barometers for developmental prospects, I don't know what to say.

The fact remains that JS has only drafted two QBs in his entire tenure here.

Oh, you meant draft a QB to develop? See you didn't say that at all so I had no idea that's what you meant. Howell and Hall have decent upside, but long shots. Plumlee has been used as a WR though still listed as QB but i'll give you that one.

Good grief. Lock at least has an NFL arm, NFL height, and can scramble a bit. So Lock found a weak link in the Philly secondary to go after. Tom Brady found a weak link* in the Seahawk secondary to go after and now we call him Super Bowl 49 Champion for doing that.

Drew Lock was a good signing for 2 years at 5M. If the Seahawks develop a SB 35 Baltimore-Ravens-quality defense, then Lock could indeed lead, er, game-manage, the Hawks to another Lombardi in relief of injured Ginger Jesus, just like Dilfer did for the Ravens, or Jeff Hostetler for the Giants. Or even a poor man's Nick Foles.

Right now, I'm basing my hope for next season on Ginger Jesus and an elite D, not on Drew Lock or Sam Howell.

* Tharald "Toast" Simon was the weak DB link Brady, Edelman and Amendola exploited over and over for the SB49 win.
