His numbers are only borderline HOF, definitely not a first ballot HOFer.
Yes, at the running back position, numbers are a big part of it. For QB, RB and WR, it's about stats, like the baseball HOF. But Marshawn's game went beyond how many carries and yards he had.

In his prime, Marshawn was a dominant back who could do it all--he was a power back but he was also fast and elusive, he could catch and pass protect. In the four seasons from 2011 to 2014, he rushed for over 1200 yards each year with 11 or more TDs each year.

Here is Mike Sando's argument for why he should be in the HOF:

I think he should, but I don't think that he is a first ballot HOFer, especially with his mystique and persona. Beast mode is in the lexicon of virtually every athlete and even lay person in the US. He's an infamous figure, specifically with the beast quake run and the hoopla surrounding the decision to pass it in the infamous Super Bowl.

That being said, he's pretty far down on the all time rushing list (30th) and (17th) in rushing TDs. I see some players that made the HOF with similar numbers, but most of them were not first ballot HOFers, they had to wait a bit.

Marshawn was largely unimpressive with the Bills, so nearly his entire resume is based on a strong four-year run in Seattle. That's not to say I don't think he's deserving, Im just saying I get why he's not first ballot. A little surprised he didn't at least make the top 25 cut though, and concerned about what that could mean for his future candidacy. There are some good RBs becoming eligible over the next few years (Gore, AP).

Marshawn didn't have drama of 3-somes with his brother and other of Earl's Greatest Hits moments. Wasn't a crazy ex (or current wife) with a gun part of one of Earl's famous moments? Or was that the same incident as the 3-some?

Exactly. He might be one of the most feared runnings backs to ever play the game. Beastquake might have been the greatest run ever. His game transcends stats

That’s just like your opinion man
He didn't even make semi-finalist in the voting. This isn't just my opinion, others that are far more important than me or you share it. He's likely going to get in, but he's going to have to wait awhile -- especially with guys like AP and Gore coming up soon.

His numbers are good, but still iffy for HOFers. He's up there with some HOFers in numbers, but there are also others that didn't get in with better numbers or similar, or rather have yet to. I suspect he will get in some day, but it's going to be awhile.

I'm just calling it as I see it. I want him in, but it's going to be a long haul for him to get in realistically.

The people acting like that would keep Earl out never heard of Lawrence Taylor. Earl was the best safety in football from 2011-2015. He'll get in.
