Great stuff, Toffee. I appreciate the effort you put into this.
Without doing any maffs, let's just say you gave the team a solid B (overall). For all intents and purposes, I'm satisfied with a B. New coaches, new system(s) and a few solid rooks joining an already pretty good team.
I think we all agree Mc really knows his stuff. For obvious reasons, like NFL inexperience, the jury may be out on Grubb. I know the Grubb (DeBoer) offense fairly well. I've given this a ton of thought and like from out of the blue I've been greeted with a huge injection of confidence regarding that side of the ball. Is Grubb a bonified NFL coach? Certainly not yet, but it's all football and Grubb just wins football games.
This confidence is also inspired by Huff. 3 years ago, reports say Jimmy Lake forced Huff to "fatten up" and destroy a very good OL at UW. That line was beaten soundly by Montana. Ugh. I was kinda miffed when DeBoer kept Huff on staff (becuz I don't know jack). 2 years later Huff produced the best OL in all of college football. Certainly Grubb's play calling assisted in that. But the situation they are in today is quite similar. Solid RBs, fantastic WRs and very capable TEs. They will not have the same caliber of QB this year but I believe in our QB room (until I don't). Grubb will scheme around that as well as the OL woes, as he did 2 years ago at the Dub. In the interim, Huff will be improving our OL (at least in theory). So add that solid B to all of the above and hell yeah, I'm feeling pretty darn good going into '24.
