Is the tush push fair, or even defendable?

Maybe, or something about the formation
A simple rule, a fellow teammate cannot help advance a ball carrier through contact with said ball carrier. The team can block all they want, but no players can push the player forward. Conversely, on D a player cannot forcibly contact a ball carrier who is in the grasp of a tackler. He can grab ahold, but no cleaning the pile, or laying wood to an upright, but being tackled player. I saw one today, where a WR was stood up, and a LB layed the wood to him while he was being firmly held while being tackled. Assist a tackle, but not cleaning his clock.

It used to be a penalty to help your teammates in offense by pushing or killing them. I don't mind letting them do that, but be consistent and let the defense catapult each other over the offensive line.

That’s what I wanna see, a defense line up in its own tush push and push someone over the top to meet the QB

I really don't like outlawing something just because it's been successful. I would be in favor of changing the rules though so defense's have more of a fair chance against it. Why can the offense push people forward but the defense can't? Simple fix, just allow the defense to push a guy forward like the offense does in the tush push. That or don't allow the offense to push the QB forward with another player behind them. There shouldn't be separate rules anyways in my opinion.
