He wasn’t starting because the old regime was dedicated to digs and Adams who they had money committed to. Every time love came in. He played well. I think he won us a couple games last year.
To me, this is a good move. This is a value move. He will be worth more than this contract.
Seems like a good signing to me. He was our best safety last season and is just entering his prime.

It's also worth noting that Love started most of last season and was tied for the third-most snaps on defense. So, he was an integral part of our defense—only Bobby had more tackles.

Julian Love progressed from the the #3 safety to their #1 safety and an NFL pro-bowler. Playing in all 17 games and starting in 12, Love accumulated 78.8% of the team's defensive snaps for the year. Given that Coach Karl Scott was the only coaching hold over from last year, the 3 year extension suggests that the 26 year old Love is most likely a foundation signing. This player/coach continuity should continue to build this year. This is a very note worthy signing extension.

The best is yet to come.

He's a hell of a player, and I never believe the numbers when they come out. Good on him. Still very young, stays healthy and he earned this extension. Nicely done, front office.

Source: Safety Julian Love and the Seahawks reached agreement on a three/year extension worth up to $36 million. The deal was negotiated by Drew Rosenhaus, Jason Rosenhaus and Ryan Matha.

Other than for cap space surely its a position we want to draft instead over the next couple of years?
Um.........because he deserves it?

Love had a rough start to the season, but he seemed to get better and better as the year went on. And if I recall correctly, he was also one of the only defensive secondary players that seemed to give an honest $h!t in the second half of the Steelers game.

Top money for a Safety is currently at $21M/year average (Antoine Winfield, Jr. with the Bucs)

... so, getting a recent Pro Bowl Safety in Julian Love for $12M/year for three more years (through 2027) seems like a great move. The timing is perfect.

I'm guessing that Budda Baker will soon eclipse Winfield's salary because Baker will become a UFA after this season unless he's signed to an extension. Stay tuned in on that.

I wonder if Love took a "home town discount" just to get a chance to play in Mac's new look defense...

To be honest, I don't really see the kind of ceiling with Love where he's likely to command much more than this in the short-term future, and his value would absolutely tank were he to tear an achilles in camp or something. It was really a no-brainer decision for him to take this deal; like the kind of deal where his agent would rage quit if he had passed. We have a classy organization anyways; if he prodigiously outproduces this contract, I have little doubt we'll take care of him somehow.

Good points ^
Deal seems pretty fair vs. the market. He's really good, but not top tier. Money seems right about where it should be. And that's if it's even what is reported.

I trust Big Mac when it comes to defensive moves thank you very much. If he thinks he was worth the extension who am I to argue?
That's where I'm at, too. I was the same way with Pete until he started doing things like throwing his DC's under the bus, trading the farm for Adams, etc. I'll trust Macdonald on defensive matters until proven otherwise.

In regards to Macdonald, the move we didn't make that surprised me was Geno Stone. Stone came out of nowhere to star in Mac's system last season, I figured he'd get bank in the off-season, but he ended up signing with the Bengals at a modest 2 years, $14 million. Mac must be pretty confident in his ability to coach these guys up.

Players choose to. Can't sign everyone. Maybe he didn't want to come to Seattle.
The surprise to me wasn't that he didn't come here, I just thought he'd do better than $7 million per on a two-year deal. I feel like we could have beaten that pretty easily if we had wanted to. Maybe he wants to be in Cincy, but they almost always end up taking the money.

Nice looking young family there. Maybe some personal stability over the next couple of years was part of his decision. Not trying to be too much of a cynic, I think it is a good deal for both sides. Looking forward to Love on the field come opening day.

I'm a little ambivalent. He played great at the end of last year but he wasn't even a starter for most of that season. I expect big things going forward!
I’m late to the conversation but my opinion is….

Evidently the current staff has seen something that fits what the intentions are.

Good for Love, my hope is that he flourishes.
Potential is there.

Definitely not a huge gamble. Within a year, I bet this contract looks like a bargain.
You absolutely could have “nailed it”.

Current staff sees something they like.

I’m 100% in until proven otherwise, I’ve always kinda liked the kid and wondered why he didn’t get more time on the field.

As others have stated, Diggs and Adams probably over shadowed because of the investment we had in them.

Good for Love.

That is surprising but at the same time Julian Love is a swiss arm knife on the back end and like Spoon Mac can move him around in certain packages.
I like this and falling in line with it. He may be schematically perfect. Gonna ride this out and see what Mac does with him. Certainly good money…
