Tomlinson (32) and Forsythe (27) are both FA's and neither are must keeps. Sorry but the group of Haynes, Sunderland, Laumea and Jerrell don't scream soon to be a top 10 line to me.
Additions need to be made and this seems like a good O-line draft class.
With Lucas' injuries and so many OT's in this draft class a swing tackle should be drafted in round 3 or 4 and use a 1st or 2nd on an OG.
Also add the best FA offensive lineman we can afford that is OKed by the new coaching staff.
Let them all battle it out in camp and let it sort itself out.
This can't be about John saving $ on the O-line anymore.
I agree with the last part but I don't think we go 1st round on the offensive line. Maybe 2nd but I'd bet 1st goes to an Edge guy to be honest. The line will be filled in FA completely if not mostly. JS likes to go BPA day 1 and even day 2. Day 3 is more for filling needs. Thats the right approach

In terms of BPA, there is a huge difference between high ceiling/upside/impact player and a plug & play likely ten year starter.

If we draft OL high, it doesn't mean they are automatic starters IMO. What it does do is push the young guys we already have to work harder to win the spot. More competition is good.
I expect/hope we both bring in a solid/top-level FA talent or 2 AND draft O-Line high.

Part of a great career is knowing when to call it quits. Lockett has had a long and productive career with us. Why tarnish that by having him play as a shell of himself and dragging this thing on? I love Tyler and what he's done for the team but it's likely time to move on.
I didn't see him as "a shell of himself" last year. Certainly production was down, but still had 6 games with 60+ yds and 6 games with 4+ receptions. For a team with DK & JSN, the #'s were decent. 600 total yds on 49 receptions and 12.2 avg. Not too bad. Most of those were before JSN's tear, so different perspectives to evaluate from.

He was never a burner...skill was quickness with an excellent grasp of the position. He hasn't lost the latter.

Honestly, not trying to be a homer...just think he brings leadership, knowledge, etc. If they can't get the right deal, then you have to cut him. Dude still had value IMO.

If the dude wants to play and a team wants to take him on, I don't see how that would tarnish his career. Lot's of great players have played longer than they probably should have. I wouldn't even mind seeing him back with the Hawks if he's willing to play for the vet min., wouldn't be any worse than a 3rd or 4th WR we'll probably be rolling with if he's not here anyway.

Regarding Big Cat contract, nice to free up some cap space there just wondering how all that works. Is it kicking the can down the road? Do they pay more later?

I think a lot of it is just people were thrown off because Tyler was the legit #3 on this team now, and that's a pretty big change.

As a #3, he was perfectly fine, but he has been the #1 or 2 option for so long that it's almost like he disappeared.

But there isn't a single team paying their third highest paid receiver more than $6.5M in cap (and most are in the $1.5 to $3.5M range). Tyler's cap hit is $30M. You just can't pay that for a WR3 and the type of pay cut he'd have to take to stay here... I just don't see it happening.

Hope I'm wrong, though.

They added void years to his contract so that he's on our books in 2027 & 28, but he's a Free Agent after 2026. If we work out some sort of extension over the next two years (which I think is realistic), then the extra dead cap becomes a non-issue.

Essentially, we did kick the cap out down the road but also gave us an incentive to keep him on the team in the future.

I hope if we can free up a bunch of CAP space that we spend it on a bunch of so-so middling talents to round out a mediocre roster.

No doubt, Lockett would have take a massive cut. I have to believe he knows that. If he has 1-2 years left and can finish his career here, on a team friendly deal, I’m all for it.

I’m not of the opinion others have that he’s lost total value. If he can be a #3 and paid as such, I’m game.
