Here's a list of AL teams that were behind the Mariners but now have surpassed them now -

Cleveland
Baltimore
Detroit
Kansas City
Texas (2023 World Champs - fell back this season)

Also ironically, that's probably not a good thing because it gives Dipoto an excuse to roll it back with these same players next year. "See? This is what these guys are capable of. We don't need better players, these guys are good enough".

Sorry Sutz. I'm just responding to other posts. 🤷‍♂️
I'd be good with most of that IF that offense kept on rolling.
There is no doubt Edgar has helped these guys - The results are stunning.

You're looking at just record there's more to it than that. If you take the team offensive numbers for September (.265 AVG, .350 OBP, .777 OPS, etc) and apply that to every month of the season they probably do have 100 wins....those numbers are top of the league tier.

I'm looking at their record because that's what their record is with those offensive numbers.

But ok, sure. If we're living in pipe dream fantasy land where we're going to believe those numbers are sustainable for an entire season, then sure. They would probably have a shot at 100 wins. I think the chances that this team, with these players sustaining those numbers for 162 games is very remote. And I mean like 1 in a million remote.

If you take their offensive numbers for August and apply that to every month of the season, they probably have at least 90 losses. It goes both ways.

I wouldn't. They need to take out the trash. Garver, Polanco, and Haniger are no where near good enough and need to go. They need to upgrade the entire infield and the DH spot. This team has way too many .200-ish hitters in the lineup every day.

Also, Justin Turner is 39 years old and is a free agent after the season so who knows if he'll be back next year, and even if he is, his play is likely to start dropping off sooner rather than later at his age.

Well, finished the season by sweeping the A's. Cal got his 100 RBI. Good game.

Yep, nice way to finish it off.

Logan is a straight up stud. Most innings pitched in all of MLB, and the lowest WHIP in all of MLB, to go along with 220 K's. He's a beast.

Cal has sort of quietly become one of the best catchers in baseball. He's elite behind the plate, and while you'd like to see a bit higher BA, there's not a team in the league that wouldn't be ecstatic to get 34 HR and 100 RBI from their catcher. Oh, and 2nd year in a row leading the league in runners caught stealing.

Yes, and since it's finally over I'll opine on the future a bit. Cal is apparently eligible for arbitration. I'm thinking maybe they should go for a real multi-year contract. Maybe not Julio-esque, but pretty decent one.
