I don't think the timing was the issue, I think the route itself was the issue. Drifting on a crosser is bad news and will lead to a pick like this. Genos already throwing the ball when DK drifts deep and loses inside leverage on the DB rather than flattening.

This was absolutely not a good game for Geno but given the full picture on this INT alone, I can't pin that all on him.
Mael…can you break this down a bit? When you say drifting, are you referring to the cut angle?

I’ve seen similar posts to what you linked…so I’m assuming it’s correct.

Im still trying to understand it.

Thx!

I can't stand the Niners, no secret, but Purdy is a MUCH better QB overall, imo. Dude is just plain steady. Smart with the ball, accurate, doesn't do a lot of stupid stuff, take what the defense is giving him etc. Obviously, he has a hell of a roster to deal with. But.........I can't lie and say I wasn't impressed with him.

Geno when asked about it basically sold DK out so the route is on DK for sure. I don’t like that Geno did that and he seemed defensive post game but I also sort of get it.

Geno of first half 2023 was better than Geno of second half 2023.

Geno of 2024 is same or slightly less than Geno of second half 2023.

Did he? It sounded like Geno fell on the sword for DK in the press conference (from my perspective).

I just heard the soundbite where when asked he said “go watch the tape” it seems to imply DK was at fault? But I didn’t hear the whole thing so I could be wrong. I do think that pick was more on DK

He’s wildly underrated by Seahawks fans and people on this forum.

Wow, what a leader Geno is. Ouch.
Someone is getting quite full of himself. Do NOT give this guy an extension.

Ah, that was for the interceptions as a whole. He was asked specifically about that play and said, "That was an interception, Man. We all saw it. It's on me."

I take it back then, he took the blame then even though I don’t think it really was. He did lock in there and other guys might of been open but regardless run the right route and at least give the play a chance

Purdy has a good team around him. They've invested in o-line and can run the ball even with backups.

Purdy is good, but he isn't elite. Got confused by MM's sim pressures and threw 5 picks vs Ravens last year? Their redzone offense is suspect without CMC (except against us).

Geno isn't good enough to "carry" a bad roster. Right now he has to outscore teams because our defense is so bad. When they spread out all the time to play catch up, it's easy pickens for pass rushers to tee off on him.

Geno has no run game to rely on because our run schemes are basic and our o-line can't open holes. Put Geno on SF's roster, and he'll probably be fine with the supporting cast. Put Purdy on our roster and ask him to pass 50 times a game, trying to play catch up? Probably won't look good.

Not Mael, but yeah, it refers to the cut angle.

By drifting, you can see that DK doesn't stay horizontal across the field and slowly starts moving upfield (drifting).

This is what allows the DB to undercut DK and get the interception.

There is two ways to look at it: One, DK was being undisciplined and got lazy on his route (he's been guilty of that before) or two, he started the drifting to get the space on the DB to move upfield after getting the reception and he was hoping Geno would hit his outside shoulder further upfield.

It was probably a bit of both. The issue I have though is if DK holds his route it allows him to use his physicality to box out the DB, which gives Geno more room for error in the pass.

Drifting upfield would allow him to possibly get more yards out of a successful pass but he's not using his main advantage as a receiver.

Thanks Dark! I was assuming this was the case. The replay threw me off a bit as the timing of the route looked great but…definitely ‘drifted’.

Purdy will ultimately regress at some point. He's got a pretty low-powered arm.

He's been incredibly savvy and is hella annoying when extending plays, but at some point, he is going to lose his juice (and it'll be exactly when Shanny loses his juice).

Purdy is like the QB version of Byron Maxwell. What he's doing works super well in the circumstance he's in now, but I think he looks like a diet version of Jared Goff if he's put on like the Browns or Cardinals or something.

Not really a slight to Purdy. He's doing good, but this is the team and coach that made Jimmy G look decent enough to make a Super Bowl. There's a pattern there.

No one thinks Purdy actually sucks. That's a strawman. The question is whether or not his current level of performance is a product of playing in a near-perfect situation. Like, does anyone think Purdy is putting up those numbers for Seattle?
