Wilson just needs to escape quicker on some of those plays where pressure is coming. He's really hanging in the pocket sometimes.

The other thing, as Jacson Bevens noted over at Field Gulls, is that Wilson took a ton of bad sacks last year (he had the most bad sacks AND the most "Houdini plays" according to whatever metric FO uses to define both of those types of plays) and needs to learn when to just eat four yards instead of running backwards or into a sack and eating eight yards or ten yards instead.

Pete said specifically that GB threw blitzes that they did not plan for, and he was not concerned with the resulting sacks. I also recall him saying that game planning overall was very minimal during the week.

Either way, I don't know how we can say the O-line had a good game. There may have been good individual performances, or isolated play, but if we start 15 yards back, or 20 yards back on 1st down, we are not doing a good job. Made it really hard for all of the offensive play makers to be successful.

I'm not nearly as worried as some around here. My knee-jerk reaction is, of course, that we're doomed! DOOMED, I tells ya! But consider:

1. Our expectations for Russell Wilson are that he is the #1 quarterback not only in the league, but in the history of the game.

2. Even the greatest quarterbacks have slumps, off-days, mistakes, and games where they just plain look like heated crap with spinach in it.

3. Vanilla vs. game planning. GB game planned; we did not. And Green Bay ain't no Oakland.

4. We're down a whole slew of key players that complement the offense. And even those who played did not play much - Lynch gave his reps to a rookie, Baldwin and Tate gave catches to Kearse and Williams.

5. Preseason or not, it was still a road game at Lambeau Field, a tough venue to play in, against a tough team.

Our first stringers held pace with theirs. Our second and third stringers held pace with theirs. So we didn't curb stomp a top contending team on the road with half our contingent out who game planned for us. We didn't get out-gunned at all, and in fact, a metric butt-ton of penalties included, we still out-gained them by a lot, across the board. I think all things considered, we did fine.

I have a feeling that Wilson is trying to become more adept in the pocket. The good thing about preseason is it is an opportunity to try things out. I think it was done by design.

At least 2/3rds of the O-line penalties were legitimate ones. That is not good play for the line, regardless of how well they blocked.

I disagree. Why take away some of what makes him special?

See Big Ben. Keeping plays alive is part of what he does.

Oh no! RW was probably just lightning in a bottle last season! Because preseason games are always an indicator of how a player will play in the regular season....

You disagree that Wilson should work on assessing when to escape for a big gain and when that isn't possible?

No one is saying that he should stop scrambling, but Bevens brings up Aaron Rodgers as an example of a guy that knows when to scramble and knows when to just eat the loss without making it worse. I want Wilson to improve in this area and learn how to better manage the risk of scrambling out the back door as well.

The offense really took off after Seattle started running the read option last year on about 10% of plays. That's when Lynch's ypc jumped over 5 and that's when they started blowing teams out. CBS and Time Warner Cable are having a spat, so the game was blacked out in my area (and blacked out on NFL Preseason Live because it's supposed to be showing here). I'm guessing there were no or almost no read option plays?

Spin's right. I saw several times in the game where 2012 RW runs for a first down because the blitz left a gaping hole in the line, and at least a couple times where the read-option looked imminent but wasn't the actual play call. Definitely not showing any of our cards in preseason, and getting a gauge on what the other guys' defensive adjustments have been. I like it.

For every time Wilson makes it 2-3 yards worse than just taking the loss, there's about 3-4 occasions where somehow he just slips through and makes a gain. I don't think I'll ever fault him for trying

If this Offense had more quick hit pass routes it would help out in more ways than one. Lack of that type of WR -seperation-? RW's height? Bevell? IDK

Has the Stephen Williams as Daryl 'Deep Heat' Turner 2.0 occurred to anybody else?

By the way, Packers fans are gracious and fun. Several people were wishing me luck and complimenting my beard AND our fanbase.

It's always fun to go to a different team's home and be treated as a guest.

Sailor I really like your analysis of game as well as Kearly . Wilson had a pass tipped and another that he forced. That's it. The O line will get better I have no doubt. People there is a lot to like about the game and the good play by ST, LB and the DL groups.

Maybe. Hopefully he can last more than 4 years.
Although it's preseason he is looking like a legitimate deep threat not seen on this team since Galloway, and that will make it simply impossible for teams to cheat up. That's what, 6 receptions for 186 yards and 3 TDs? I want to see more of him with Russell Wilson and the 1s.

I look forward to the first time we can see Williams, Tate, Harvin and Lynch on the field at the same time.

That's not to say I think any of them are better than Rice or Baldwin (though some are), but the 4 above seem to have that "tilt-the-field" game changing big play ability in them, just having one or two of those guys on a team can give coordinators nightmares. But 4!?

I thought the Packers were a little to 'lathered up' for this game, they came out acting like it mattered...And maybe it did to them.
All the blitzing by GB looked desperate, like they needed to prove something...They didn't.
GB has a rookie playing left tackle, he holds on just about every play...So I would say he's playing more like a seasoned GB left tackle.
I'm glad Bevel didn't adjust the game plan to counter the blitzing...Why show your hand in preseason?
It's obvious that Rogers(How lame was that porn stash?) is 'afraid' of this defense...Hope they win enough to go to Seattle for the playoffs.
The Refs once again to 'control' of this game...It won't even be football if this trend continues into the regular season.

BINGO! By the way folks are posting you'd think the Hawks lost 40-0. The vanilla vs gameplan thing is huge! Besides that, NOW they can see the obvious things they need to improve upon after watching game tape! This crap game will be a blessing in disguise IMHO!

I can't be the only one that lol'd at "I also love that his jersey number is #74, as if the team wanted him to be a living reminder of the Moffitt trade."??
