Seeing the Vikings run all over us at will was disheartening. It got me wondering, does it invalidate our run defense performance in the other weeks? Do we have a bad run defense? Maybe, but not necessarily.
I know our defense is nowhere near what it was in 2012-2014, and I am not comparing this defense to those ones. However, even great defenses have some bad days against some of the best rushing offenses. Sometimes you just have to tip your cap to the competition. Here is a look back at our worst run defense performances from 2012-2014.
2012 week 7 at SF, allowed 175 rushing yards.
2012 week 9 vs MIN, allowed 243 rushing yards.
2012 week 12 at MIA, allowed 189 rushing yards.
2013 week 4 at HOU, allowed 151 rushing yards.
2013 week 8 at STL, allowed 200 rushing yards.
2013 week 9 vs TB, allowed 205 rushing yards.
2013 week 14 at SF, allowed 163 rushing yards.
2014 week 6 vs DAL, allowed 162 rushing yards.
2014 week 11 at KC, allowed 190 rushing yards.
In 2013, we got gashed on the ground in a full one quarter of our games. My point is, yes that performance on Sunday night was concerning. No, it doesn't necessarily mean our run defense sucks. So far it's the outlier, not the norm. And remember, the Vikings do have one of the best rushing attacks in the league.
The important thing is for the Seahawks to understand why they got beat on the ground and fix it. Hopefully Snacks will help.
