Based on this particular ranking, the Vikings o-line was ranked 9th last season.

If Sam holds the ball for 2.93 seconds with our o-line, it's going to be a sack-fest.
That was the offense in Minni, he took a lot of down field shots also, Kubiak wants to get the ball out on time and YAC, why TE is important as well, seam and safety valve to pull a defense up to take higher percentage deep shots, also run game to bring a safety in to defend against the run helps make down field shots when taken look easy.

Very long drops and a lot of traditional play action were staples in the Vikings offense.

I saw both a bit of Darnold and he is not the same guy that was on the Jets or Panthers. He's fixed a lot of his fundamentals. All of his passes used to be fast balls, he learned how to put touch on his passes, his ball placement was a lot better. He was even better against pressure.

Biggest issue I saw with him in those last two games he held onto the ball for way too long. He tried playing hero ball and it went really poorly.

I’ve read a smattering of what’s been said about the Sam Darnold signing in the media, and people are all over the map on it. The general consensus is that it’s an average to below-average signing. Not that I put much stock in these so-called experts, but I thought you might want to see where they fall on this:

The Athletic (Mike Jones) Grade: C

ESPN (Seth Walder) B minus

Sporting News (Vinnie Iyer) Grade: D

A little help? What is Gregg trying to say here about Geno being better than Darnold at football and how he sees the field?

https://www.nfl.com/videos/rosentha...ld-but-geno-smith-is-a-better-qb-the-insiders

The metrics he is referring draw directky from what a qb is doing on the field with his arm and speed of processing regardless of wins and losses and difficult to parse stats like wins and losses, TDs and INts.

Geno led every qb in the league in accurate passes and fewest off target passes last year and has been near the top of the league in thise categories (as well ad completion percentage and adjusted completion percentage) since being a starter.

He is also among the best in the league in maintaining accuracy and completion percentage regardless of pressure.

He did this behind a horid o line, terrible run game and for one of the worst coordinators in the league (for 3 years).

Sam Darnold put up his stats playing with more accomplished weapons, a better o line and one of the league's brilliant coordinators.

In other words, as many have said here for years, Smith succeeded despite not being gifted key support in just about every key category (wrs are important, but if the qb is on his ass because the line cant block, you could have 3 Jerry Rice's in their prime running routes and it wouldnt matter).

Sam Darnold succeeded BECAUSE he was put in a situation that helped him considerably.

Dude is our QB so I am pulling for him, but there is literally ZERO data to say that he can accomplish what he did in Minny last year if he had the parts and pieces Geno had to play with here.

There was a pretty good breakdown of Darnold on some channel after Minny lost in the post season that looked at his play in a balanced pocket vs under pressure and his accuracy drops a good bit when he has hands and bodies pushing in on him. That was true last year and has been for his career. It wad VERY obvious in the loss to the Rams. Its not a terminal mark against him because he is young and can improve in just about every facet of his game. But folks saying he is as good as the QB who just left here because he had a better rating, Tds and his team more wins is looking at stats that are as much a function of the group than some of those that are tied directly to what the QB is doing on the field.

So, here is to hoping we can give Sam AT LEAST the parts and pieces he was gifted in Minny. If we do that, comps to Geno or anyone else wont matter because Sam will be put in the best position to succeed and as he grows in a 2nd season in a sinilar system with a strong support staff and coaching ( I REALLY hope Kubiak comes through), he will flourish along with the team.

What gives me great hope for Darnold is that he has taken his lumps and kept the faith and gone to work on himself and improved. Much like Geno Smith keeping the faith all those years until Seattle gave him a shot. It shows persistence and character, belief in, and steady work on himself. For sure NFL QB is one of the hardest jobs in the WORLD to do well at a high level.

That is scary if true and they ignore drafting a QB. Very scary indeed.
I’m assuming they won’t draft a QB now.

I don’t even know if they would’ve drafted one had we re-signed Geno.

As Darnold is much younger, I don’t see them taking a QB at this point. Maybe it’s the positioning (I.e., don’t grab a guy unless you have a top X pick). Whatever the case, the last QB we drafted was well over a decade ago…kind of crazy isn’t it?

Not that I agree….they’ve got to start taking shots. Perhaps we’ll see a 7th rounder that no one’s ever heard of get picked up.

But a premium, early rounder? No chance.

Haters gonna' hate. Just the way I like it. Already have a friend turning my DK jersey into a Darnold Jersey. Free 99, right in my price range.

We now have two relatively young QB's that are or have been starters, this draft class comparably sucks to others on average, why try to target something that's on life support in the first place this draft, that and our picks are not set up for that position. Line, both sides, TE's and WR's are supposedly the strengths of this draft, hey guess what just what we actually need for a change, focus there and reap that talent pool.

Darnold's weakness is success under pressure. That's one of the hardest things to teach and develop, and it's basically, if you have it you have it, if you don't you don't.

I see Darnold as a bridge meant to help keep us somewhat competitive while we wait or teach up a QB from the draft. I'm all right with that. It's an attempt to make 2025 rewarding for the fans instead of just tanking with Sam Howell and watching our free agency attractiveness collapse.

Though I'm sure many here would rather Sam Darnold be more than just a bridge.

Serious question about Darnold. It seems as though most fans are expecting him to be a bridge QB much like Geno was. He is 7 years younger than Geno so that almost automatically gives him a little longer bridge(?), maybe.
My question is what does Darnold need to do in 2025 to merit another season? It looks like his contract is really a two year deal. If he stinks it up in 2025 then a rookie QB in the 2026 draft is basically a must have.
Does he need to replicate his 2024 Vikings stats, do a little better than ‘24 Geno or just show consistency and competency?
What does Sam Darnold need to do in a Seahawks uniform to dispense with the bridge QB monicker and be the guy moving forward for the next decade?
