I feel like I almost never see PFF give anyone on this team a bright blue square for anything, so it was cool to see a few this week:

Leonard Williams, overall: 92.6
Riq Woolen, run defense: 92.0
Zach Charbonnet, pass blocking: 89.1
DK Metcalf, run blocking: 88.7
Julian Love, tackling: 86.4

He struggled some, no doubt - was expected. I just don't understand the insanely low PFF grade. It really felt like Michael Jerrell struggled more than Laumea when he was put in there before Lucas came back, yet he never received such a low grade in a game. I believe his lowest scores were in the 40's without going back and looking.

I love the stats PFF provides - but grading... take that with a grain of salt. I also believe Charles Cross is graded to high overall with their system. He's had some good games, but he's given up a lot of pressures this season. He is not up there with the best LT's in the game imo.

Go rewatch the game if you can. His PFF grade is fiction. Hell, watch the highlights. That alone gives you enough of an idea to know that the PFF grade is a joke.

13:45 mark

He missed some blocking assignments with the run game. He had a couple of penalties (holding call was questionable). He was solid in pass pro but still allowed 2 hurries.

He was practicing at LG and it's his first start so there's bond to be some adjustment time needed.

PFF wasn't wrong about his first outing, but he showed promise.

PFF score doesn't mean he didn't make any good plays it means he made some bad plays.
His PFF score was 29.3. Under the "very poor" designation. Worse than any game Bradford or Tomlinson have had. 20 points worse than Haynes's score.

That doesn't compute. I watched him pretty closely. There were some misses, for sure. And one legit penalty. But he wasn't worse than Bradford. Not by a long shot.

I guess we'll see about Sata this weekend when they announce if he's the starter again. I take PFF grades with a grain of salt, but I take the coaches' word above all other commentors. If they think he did well enough, they'll start him again. Haynes seems to have lost their confidence and Bradford is out for a couple more weeks. If he's the starter in Az Sunday, that'll say a lot, and it's really the only opinion that matters.

Our line has quietly gotten better the past few weeks.
Except for short yardage...which we will need. Oh mighty football gods...let us see a drastic improvement there this week.

Geno had to go due to picks...last game vs jets:
1733348100138

Respectable, but not LAR or Lions type games. Still, not too much Geno negativity this week. Good.

We did suck in short ydg, but K9 and Charbs had difficulty getting through (except when it was really needed)...so Grubb has to go.

If the o-line run game can be fixed, Geno will get his 1st playoff win and maybe more. This team is closer than many understand to compete with the big dogs but we still must have blood. Where are the jedi masters when we need them?

OPINION:

Dependency on media sites as to what to buy into is the social plague of our time.

Why subscribe and become dependent, subservient and obedient to anonymous assertions of unaccountable corporate media sites?

Look at the Data.

And in this case, Look at the Film.

It was two penalties and although you and I know one of them was BS, PFF doesn't care, a penalty is a penalty. He had 2 hurries which is not ideal. He also missed some blocking assignments in the run game. Not a great game, but you can see there's reason for hope. Some of the plays he blocked well, he really blocked well.

For comparison:

Sewell PFF 12424

This is the best lineman in the league and he scored a 53 in pass blocking in their Texans game. Does that mean he's a below average pass blocker? Of course not.

Or maybe PFF is wildly inaccurate with how they grade players.

Sataoa Laumea made his NFL debut on Sunday, starting and playing every offensive snap, and while it wasn't a flawless performance,

it was good enough to impress teammates and coaches,

and also to earn the sixth-round pick another start this week.

"That's the plan right now," Macdonald said. "There were a couple of mentals to start out the game,

but you're talking about a rookie playing his first meaningful NFL action. But we felt him out there, I thought he did a great job getting used to the game, so I'm excited about him
."

Macdonald said he had some miscues early on but got better as the game progressed. His highlights look great because he was instrumental in a few nice runs. But that was just a few plays out of many. If Mac's initial response to the question of how he did was ' he had some mentals [errors] but got better ', it lends creedance to the idea that he played really well in spots, and not great in others.
