I hate to say I'm not surprised... But I'm not. Russell is such a robot and he was so busy even in the offseason, it just doesn't surprise me. If that relationship became long distance than I have no doubt there was a huge strain on it and it certainly felt like it had gone long distance given the number of appearances he had. I gave his wife a ton of credit for visiting the children's hospital so often with him and seeming to genuinely support his ambitions, but at the same time, it's really hard to take a back seat to someone who is supremely motivated. My first instinct is that this is simply the cost of living with someone that prioritizes things as thoroughly as Russell does. It can't be easy being married to someone like that and, I could very easily see his wife feeling like he didn't appreciate her given the time he put into other areas.

I always go back to a passing remark Pete made about Russell after the Atlanta game where he told Russell to take a vacation and after mentioning Russell's response muttered "Poor Ashton." So that's why I get the feeling that Russell's focus simply strained their relationship. At least, I hope that's all it is. Divorce is never easy but an affair would be so much worse. I certainly hope he didn't cheat, because if he did I have no doubt we'll hear about it and certain people will try to tear down the near immaculate image Wilson has built here.

I knew this was coming for awhile.

One look at all the those foul comments posted about her on Youtube and crap - especially those insanely jealous, FREAK 49er fans.

Pretty sure she wanted out and who could blame her? This guy is going to get more famous, and win more Superbowls and be known everywhere -- just ask Brenda Warner about the kind of crap she had to go through... Rival fans and press tweet and write NASTY crud about her all the time, they are still making fun of her on the Youtube video - and she seems like a pretty sensitive and low key person. She is not a Supermodel like Gisele, nor a war hardened survivor like Brenda Warner. Some people just can't handle that kind of scrutiny, pressure, and venom directed at them, nor should they have to - she fell in love with a boy in high school with no concept that millions of people would watch video's of everything she does.

My guess is that Wilson filed for divorce because he is being a man and taking the lead and protecting her, and I would expect nothing less of him.

I wish them both happiness, and that it drives him to win 5 or 6 Superbowl trophies just to shut the critics up.

I know they have been together a long time but still if you don't have kids your not reLly married. Your just living together. When no kids are involved you can seperate and go your seperate ways and begin again. Kids change that. Once you take that step you are forever bound one way or another. I'm sorry they are going through this but better now than later on with children in the mix. Good luck to them both.

A guy with a young bride @home who shows up at 5am after a Sunday night game to watch film isn't serious about his marriage.
When fans were cheering RW showing up @5am in the morning at the Gym, I remember saying "RW needs to spend more time with his family". When he struggled towards the end of the season, I remember saying "RW needs to spend more time with wife @home". I'm starting to believe now that his struggles towards the end of last season were the consequence of his family falling apart.

I know fans want their favorite players working hard 24 hours a day, but I doubt anyone of us with a family and a young bride could do the same thing. Having a wife @ home who almost never sees her man is just not realistic.

I don't mean to know what went on in that RW Family, but I'm very disappointed in Russell Wilson. Especially given the way he wears his "faith" on his sleeves.

What's next? A book by Ashton? A sit down with Oprah?

There is no reason to speculate, there could be PLENTY of different reasons for this. I think everyone is kinda shocked by this but I'm sure more details will come out later. No reason to paint anyone as the villain or predict what caused it.

It is news and does concern us, or the Seahawks wouldn't have felt the need to publicly release a statement.

I always have felt concerned with whether Wilson's work ethic was crossing the line of being unhealthy. Smart people don't jeopardize their sleep long term.
