I will bring him in to kick the tires, might even sign him to vet minimum as backup with hope he can recapture some of his prime skill.

He was never as good as Russ, but when they were both at their super bowl years, they weren't that far apart. Just that Russ kept improving either because of Pete or despite of Pete.

Whaddaya think? 5 years ago I'd have said 'hell no!' but now not so much -

:0190l:

If we're interested in former 49ers quarterbacks, waddaya think about Joe Montana instead? 5 years ago I'd have said 'hell no!' but now not so much -

Last two years in the league:

Joe Montana: 60.7% completion rate, 5,427 yards, 29 TDs, 16 INTs.
Colin Kaepernick: 59.1% completion rate, 3,856 yards, 22 TDs, 9 INTs.

By comparison, there's these measly numbers over the last two years:

Russell Wilson: 67.5% completion rate, 8,322 yards, 71 TDs, 18 INTs.

Letting Wilson go and replacing him with Kaepernick would definitely cement Carroll's legacy in Seattle, and not in a good way.

I'd rather go with a rookie or 2nd year QB.

I'm a fan of Kaep, and I absolutely think he was pushed out of the league for reasons outside of his skills on the field.

BUT

He has been out of the league for too long. He's done for good at this point.

I'm not opposed to them holding a tryout for him.

Now if he decides to move the tryout unannounced to Spokane and gets offended when nobody shows up and claims wrongdoings, then its time to move on.

If he shines at his workout, sign Kaep!

Agreed. If we're gonna start over - take the egos out of it. Rebuild same way Wilson allowed us on a rookie QB salary.

Now my wife wants Fitz anyhow - digging the beard apparently!

3 or 4 years ago I would have said sure, why not. But after 5 years out of the league? No thank you.
This.

I have very mixed feeling on Kaepernick re: off-the-field stuff, but I don't think that's the only sticking point for teams these days. He's simply been gone for so long, I just don't know what the point is.

I mean, you could hold a tryout but unless he looks like he did 8 years ago--which he won't---I'm not sure what the value is that you couldn't get by trying to bring in a young backup from a different team or trying to draft someone (I mean, yeah, Seahawks don't have high draft picks, but Russ wasn't exactly a high draft pick) and not have the extra drama (whether that's the off-the-field stuff or simply brining in a QB who the fanbase absolutely hated BEFORE that stuff).

Kaepernick is a less talented Cam Newton. He would be out of the nfl by now, had he stayed on the league. Which would have been best for everyone.
