Okay End of Season Awards guys

Player of the Year - Luis Suarez

Had Ramsey not missed 3 months, I would've gone with him in less than a heartbeat, the guy scored so many massive goals(including the one that ended the drought, he'll never score a more monumental goal in his life). I went with Suarez since, honestly, he almost single handedly fired Liverpool to the EPL, Gerrard and Sturridge deserve credit as well. Suarez drove home 31 goals(tied the EPL record) and actually showed maturity for once in his life. I still don't have that much respect for him cause he still has those times where he goes to ground like he got shot.

Keeper of the Year - Wojciech Szczesny/Julian Speroni

Szczesny is the co-Golden Glove winner, made some massive saves over the season and can't really take much blame for those 4 away results. He doesn't get as much credit as he deserves, partly due to his chaotic decision making being a bit of a problem he can't seem to shake.

As for Speroni, he's as much the reason Crystal Palace stayed up and pulled off the shocks they caused as anyone on the Eagles. In my mind, some of the best saves this season were his doing and I doubt Palace would have even come close to staying up if it were anyone else in goal.

Breakout Player of the Year - Aaron Ramsey

As I said, if not for the fact that he missed 3 months due to injury, I would have picked Ramsey as my POTY. This time last year, a good majority of Arsenal fans wanted him gone, saw him as a liability and a waste of time. Now, he's gotta be the consensus best player Arsenal has after the year he has. Let me put this into perspective, he missed 3 months and still had 16 goals and 9 assists. When he was missing, Arsenal's form and performances started to wane, he was so important to Arsenal's season and one can only imagine where Arsenal would've finished if he had stayed fit the entire season.

Manager of the Year - Gus Poyet

Could of chose Tony Pulis, could've went with Brenden Rodgers. In the end I went with the guy who brought Sunderland out of the depths of relegation hell. Very few teams have survived being bottom of the EPL at Christmas, and the fact that Poyet took over a struggling Black Cats that was dead last for nearly half the season by the end really was remarkable. And while their form didn't improve until late in the season he still managed them to the Capital One Cup final and becoming the first team to win an EPL match at Stamford Bridge against a Mourinho-led Chelsea.

Game(s) Of The Season - Liverpool 3-2 Manchester City

Okay this game went batshit crazy if you ask me. At no point while watching this game did I feel that one side actually had complete control. Even after Kompany inadvertantly kicked the ball to Coutinho for the winning goal, I still thought there was more to this game. Every goal was remarkable and every moment was intense as can be. Unfortunately, a line mentioned by Gerrard in the celebrations ended up coming back to haunt the Reds in the end.

Goal of the Season - Jack Wilshere vs Norwich

Suarez scored some good goals, so did Shelvey, Rooney, Yaya Toure and Sturridge. But if you want the ultimate example of precision passing, communication and teamwork. Then that was done by Cazorla, Giroud and Wilshere. It was so perfectly executed that every Norwich player was effectively frozen to their spots, and after the ball hit the back of the net some players threw their arms up praying he was offsides because this goal seemed almost impossible to have happened, whether in real life or even a video game.

Quote of the Season - Almost anything that came out of Jose Mourinho's mouth

Who here thinks Mourinho should come with a mute button? Thoughout this season, it's almost felt like Jose didn't come back to Chelsea to win trophies but rather to piss off and annoy anyone who hears him talk. The idiotic remarks I've heard him say have been all over the place. Mocking Arsenal for not scoring at home vs Chelsea, who had parked the bus in that game, then a few weeks later criticized West Ham for using 19th century tactics, even though they were the exact same tactics he used against Arsenal(and Man U earlier). Calling his team a little horse in the title race and criticizing his own players. Blatantly criticizing referees every time something didn't go his way. And then my personal favorite now, calling Arsene Wenger a "Specialist In Failure" then watch Chelsea end the season with no trophies(and his home unbeaten run end) and Arsenal end their 9 year trophy drought. He's become the King of Fools.

So, what is everyone else's choices for these catagories?

Player of the Year (I have an idea who everyone will say for this one)
Keeper of the Year
Breakout Player of the Year
Manager of the Year
Game(s) Of The Season
Goal of the Season

I didn't see enough games to be able to make any properly informed judgments but will just add that surely-soon-to-be-ex Spurs keeper Hugo Lloris deserves to be mentioned in the goalkeeper of the year conversation. He had a thoroughly impressive season, asides from possibly a couple of games after he slammed his head into Lukaku's knee. He was very busy in a lot of games as our back 4 worked on their keystone cops routine on a weekly basis. No idea how Sczezny or Speroni looked, but Lloris would have to have been at least as good.

Looking at that team got me thinking. Wouldn't it be great if there was a 4 team interleague all-star series featuring the best players from the Premier League, La Liga, Serie A and Bundesliga.

Great idea Spur... Idea of what those teams would like? I don't think I could do a good Italian team? (French instead?)

Yeah, the Monaco/ PSG All-stars would be a tough game.

Not really, all these things are just a popularity contest.

Premierleague.com apparently not available in the city of Manchester...

Actually, it kinda loses that argument when you look at the voting results and see that they grouped players seperately. I mean Suarez, Sturridge, Aguero, and Rooney were in one Forward group and you had Giroud, Eden Hazard(didn't know he was a striker), Lukaku and Lambert were in another group. Ramsey was in the same group as Yaya Toure, Ozil was grouped with David Silva, and Henderson was grouped with Lampard.

You are right, the Italian All-Stars would be pretty bad, and would be made-up predominantly of Juve players. I could see them playing a form of Catenaccio , and ruining the tournament!

I guess La Liga, despite Atleti's league win, would have a team dominated by Barça and Real.

anyone interested in putting something like this together... to pass the time before World Cup?

Pick a league. Top XI from:

Italy
England (probably already have this earlier in the thread)
Spain
France
Germany
Celtic.. I mean Scotland.

Smurf can do the MLS.

Ricky Lambert signed. Lallana, Moreno and Caulker all supposedly on the way. Not bad business if we can land all of those. Still wouldn't mind Konoplyanka.

Looks like we'll be unloading Assaidi and possibly Borini.

Would like to see us land at least one marquee type signing this year. Have heard Alexis Sanchez' name bandies about. Not sure about that one.

Im hearing all kinds of names:

Lambert-Lallana-Lovren from Saints as some part of a package to keep Lallana transfer number down (apparently Saints give Bournemouth 25% of his transfer fee. Allegedly Liverpool will pay over the odds for Lovren and skittles for Lallana)

Bid for Emre Can (German U-20 player), Moreno (with Luis Alberto the other way) and now Shaqiri (Bayern Munich) with apparent interest in Markovic (U-21 Serbian national) and Alexis Sanchez (!) with the Konoplanka kid still in the thought.

Its a big list (like something out of FM or Fifa 14) but if it comes off what a window. I think the 3 L's from the Saints are done. Can seems very close (working on personal terms, i see this as a replacement for Lucas in the nearer future) and Moreno seems very close. Then it may come down to which of the final 3 wingers (Shaqiri, Sanchez or Yehven) they can get their hands on.

Fun stuff to read on, whether any of it comes true who knows. I think the Shaqiri/Sanchez links are the most exciting, but the Lambert/Lallana/Lovren/Moreno the most realistic (and important)

Yeah, I'd heard the Can rumor, on Moreno, the word I heard was Suso going the other way :(

Hope that's not true, Suso looks the business. Alberto I'd be fine with letting go.

I think Lambert for 4 mil is good business. He's older, but can definitely score and provides some quality depth at the striker position. Shaquiri or Sanchez would be a dream, especially with Sterling already there and the possibility of Konoplyanka still floating about. Exciting times indeed.

Still, we need defenders. Shaw is going to either ManUre or Chelsea. Caulker is good, Moreno looks good, but we need CBs badly (caulker is a CB). Hopefully Agger returns to form and we never have to suffer Kolo again....

I think Lovren is the top choice CB. On Moreno, the offer was apparently Suso on loan, then Alberto and now just straight cash (homey).

Looks like Rodgers (who now has final say on transfers) wants the pressing business done before the World Cup. I still see Lallana, Lovren/Caulker, Can and one of Shaqiri/Sanchez/Kono coming. I really like the Shaqiri idea.

Lambert for 4 mil is very good business indeed. he essentially replaces Aspas (and Moses) and bagged more goals than the likes of Rooney and RvP, 3 less than Giroud. seriously, how did we finish 2nd with that depth?

edit: has anyone heard any other transfer info for their clubs? outside of Costa (and maybe the entire Atleti squad) going to Chelsea I havent seen much

This kid will be a very, very good player for us. He will have a moderate impact next season (as I feel Liverpool will rebuild the midfield around the likes of Henderson, Lallana (would love Rakitic instead) and a revolving door of Gerrard/Lucas/Allen/Can). If we are insistant on playing the diamond, then Henderson will do the work, with Lallana on a wing, Sterling at the tip and Coutinho/Shaqiri/Sanchez (man i want that one)...

But, Can will be one who assumes the leadership of the midfield as the season progresses and into next year. Great signing.

Moreno next, then maybe one of Sanchez/Shaqiri, and probably Lovren and Lallana

Gate: Cesc to Chelsea?

It's all quiet on the Spurs front. I presume that Levy is just waiting to see which obscure foreign player over performs against a 'big' team in the World Cup until he goes all in.

It's galling to see Caulker's name pop up. I could kind of understand AVB getting rid of him if he thought he was too slow for his style of defence, but now that AVB is the distant past it's pretty annoying. I hope they were able to include a buy-back or first refusal clause when he left.

Apparently a season with the worst defense in the Prem makes you a wanted commodity? Caulker looks like he could be a great asset to a strong team though.

What do Spurs need at this point? There are rumours that Chadli, Sigurrdson, Soldado and Sandro may be allowed to leave. That cant be right.
