I think this is the best OL this team has fielded since Pete Carroll has been here, the false start and holding penalties are WAY down compared to previous years, both the pass and run blocking look great and the rookies have been just amazing.

Our rookie tackles are playing as good as one can reasonable expect, to me, the re-emergence of Damien Lewis is a great sign! Against the Cardinals, his PFF rating on run blocking was 86.2, pass blocking was 76.9, overall 88.8. For the whole season, his pass blocking as been very good, average at 70.6 with only one bad game in New Orleans. His run blocking as been unexpectedly subpar, but it's coming around of late. May be learning to play zone blocking?

Yes, coach Dickerson has these guys playing exceptional football. A line truly functioning as a unit, being where they are supposed to be on most plays is a beatiful thing to watch.

Best offensive line since the days of Holmgren. The way those kids square up and block is super impressive. Geno often has a lot of time to throw.

And can you imagine the difference blocking for Geno, who will always step up in the pocket for another second to throw, as opposed to someone who bails out backwards? Makes blocking far more predictable.

Sacks are often just as much on the QB as they are on the O-Line themselves. Wilson was extremely hard to block for, in fact in some regards it wasn't even worth investing in guys that were strong in pass pro. If you notice all of our O-Line prospects had similar profiles. We looked at guys that were known as being road graters in the run game but suspect in the pass pro.

When we moved on from Wilson we pivoted hard. Notice how the first two offensive lineman we take are guys that come from the air raid system and were known for being refined pass blockers yet suspect runblockers? That is a-typical for Carroll and Schneider. The only other guy I remember with that sort of profile was Ethan Pocic. I remember Brown getting heated at Wilson more than once.

Geno Smith on the other hand is your prototypical pocket passer. He'll step up into the pocket and get rid of the ball quickly. He's extremely predictable for the offensive line.

Have we had fewer holding penalties called on the linemen this year? Seems like there have only been a few.

Edited to add answer: We have not had fewer. In all of last year there were 14 holding penalties. We are already up to 12. Damn rookies.

We are on offense a lot more with less 3 and outs ..Sure holding will be higher
We are actually blocking for a QB who uses the pocket.

Good point about TOP. Stat should be Penalties per minute. :) I was trhinking, with a more predictable QB, there might be fewer. Perhaps as they get more experience that will be the case.
