We need him to have a big game for us if we want a good chance to win on Sunday. If we can't get pressure on Matt than we are in for a long day.

why? just fill the gaps and cover receivers, whats Matt gonna do, run the ball himself? lol

the Falcons are no better at running than the 49ers

the important thing here is to just force long 3rd down situations and just wear them down as a team, as players, my Wheaties are better than your Wheaties.. :th2thumbs:
What?

I personally don't see that happening. I don't think that Bruce is quite ready to be providing pretty much all the pass rush. I think Ryan will have a clean pocket most plays. I'd love to be wrong though.

But if he does have a multi sack game and kicks ass, and the Hawks win, I think you can start making the argument that the Hawks have had the best draft in NFL history.

I predict 3 sacks for him this weekend. I think he's going to go off. Starting his first game in his home town. Gonna be reppin and wreckin the dirty south.

I predict Matt Ryan throws for 650 yards and 6 TDs.

See. I can do it too...

Just who do you think Ryan is? Matt Flynn?

I expect the Falcons to run the ball right at him.....
Yep

Let's hope so. Neither back, Turner or Rodgers, has enough speed or elusiveness to present a real threat outside the tackles.

Whoever is at DE won't matter much on run defense for the Seahawks. You rarely see our DEs getting tackles on run plays, because that's not their role in most of our defensive schemes. Our DTs, LBs and sometimes a Safety or CB, are generally the ones assigned to stop runners.

Seattle was actually very effective at stopping both Morris and Griffin from the read-option run schemes Washington was using, specifically our linebackers who played very well against Griffin before his injury. Leroy Hill, our oldest LB, actually did a solid job reading and stopping the pistol/read-option. Our LBs were able to completely shut down Alfred Morris and Griffin after the second Washington drive, and the DEs were either dropping into pass coverage or rushing the passer, which is consistent with Pete Carroll's primary defensive philosophy. Carroll used the same system at USC and it has been very effective against the run, and especially the more exotic read-option type rush offenses.

Oh, and if the runner goes at Bruce, he's going to collide with one of our big boys at DT. Good luck with that.

FYI and comments: Some guy on "Movin' the Chains" (Sirrius NFL Radio) calle Irvin a "one trick pony", meaning he does not have an inside m :180670: ove to the qb, thus he won't be a factor as Falcons will control him on the outside.
They did give some positive comments on the big guy Branch !!!!

it will be interesting to see if they line up or stunt irvin to the inside on any plays. from what little inside rushing that he's done so far; irvin is fairly effective.

I've noticed this same thing all year. When they rush Irvin outside, he's fairly ineffective, but when they stunt him inside he gets excellent pressure and can use his speed to better advantage. I'll be watching to see what they do with him.

Judging from Hasselbeck's post about the game post, they should find a way to get him into the middle.

Didn't they do this a lot with Bruce at WVU? Invent weird and wonderful ways to get Bruce pressuring up the middle? Pete's been watching Bruce all year. He knows what his strengths are and has probably been waiting all year to take advantage of them.

He had 7.5 sacks as a 3rd down specialist. This kid is a baller, and now that he's getting his shot, he's going to take full advantage. We might be seeing the next Sherman situation, where you lose one player (Thurmond) and the next guy comes in and shines. Irvin knows this is his shot to prove that he can be an every-down player. He wants to prove that he can.

Listening to Irvin on ESPN radio, he sounds pretty excited about the opportunity. I think he's gonna shock some people. Talked about having a dog inside him, wanting to hunt down qb's. He's been aggressive when he played, very physical and will hit a quarterback late. Said he couldn't slow down, couldn't let the QB get away with something, would rather take 15 yards than see a quarterback keep dropping bombs on us.

It's not just his ability to get sacks that makes him so effective. It's the exact thing that other teams criticize and complain about, that sets our team apart and has people calling us "dirty" (we're physical, not dirty). Irvin is going to do whatever it takes to shake you up. Hit you late? Okay. Get a flag? Okay. Oh, you threw on us? Okay, take a seat, BAM!! Pretty soon, your QB can't stop thinking about that crazy big-ass mongoloid-warrior that keeps chasing him down and hitting him late. Better get rid of the ball quicker. So he dumps off to Gonzalez, who is dealing with his own personal demons. The name is Bam Bam. Nice to meet you. BAM!!! It's been going on all game. Gonzalez is getting dizzy. Suddenly, he's thinking about the hit and getting butter fingers.

We've faced bigger, better TEs and we did the same thing to them (see New England, Dallas, Green Bay and San Francisco for examples). That's how these Seahawks roll. And Irvin fits perfectly. He's going to be AWESOME as an every-down player. Matt Ryan - better keep your head on a swivel, boy.

I can't wait to come in here on Monday and see what people are saying about Irvin then.

Quick - someone email the first sentence to Pete. That's the game plan sorted. Who knew it was that easy to beat a 13-3 team on the road?

Remember, Irvin has played half the amount of snaps that Clemons played, and still has 8 sacks! He is very disruptive, i think people might be over looking him just a bit.

I havent heard to much about the Falcons O-line, but if we see some good creative blitzes like we did towards the end of the skins game, Ryan could be in for a long day.

I don't think we could bring in their backup QB. Ryan is like a rubber man. I've seen his ankle and legs bend in ways no body part should bend. We could force him to throw picks, though.

We don't have to injure him. Just keep him worried a bit. Get him to take a few risks, hurry up a bit or dump it off. Get him throwing or keep him running.

We let the Legion of Boom take care of the rest.
