Dion Jordan's one-year deal with the Seattle Seahawks is worth $640,000 with no money guaranteed, per a league source.

Jordan is set to receive a base salary of $615,000 with a workout bonus of $25,000. It's a split salary deal, meaning that if Jordan gets injured, the team owes him $378,000.
Looks like an extremely team friendly deal. Cut him this summer at zero cost, injured we owe half the salary, he does well and he's a restricted free agent next season. As many expected, great low-risk high-reward signing.

IIRC, Jordan was suspended on PED violations, not Substance Abuse as the article states.

Ok this one I like more than some of the other 1 year deal and because of what is not referenced above.

He is a RESTRICTED FA after this one year deal. So if he plays well we get a first round pick or first right to keep him

That is to me basically the same as a1+1 where the second year is a team option

I like it

I laughed when Dion Jordan was selected 3rd overall in the draft. He never showed the elite pass rushing ability at Oregon that would justify such a gaudy investment.

What he did show was solid athleticism, great length, a nose for the ball while keeping containment, and decent coverage ability against tight ends. Those are the exact skill sets we need from a SLB, with occasional blitzing and the ability to flex to DE in passing situations, a la Bruce Irvin, as a bonus.

Thats so little that even I cant fault it. I wasnt even aware that a contract could be so small outside of rookie signings.

NFL salary minimums are set dependent upon a player's playing time in the league. Here's the 2017, 2018 and 2019 numbers:

Yrs. | 2017 | 2018 | 2019

0 - $465,000 | $480,000 | $495,000
1 - $540,000 | $555,000 | $570,000
2 - $615,000 | $630,000 | $645,000
3 - $690,000 | $705,000 | $720,000
4-6 - $775,000 | $790,000 | $805,000
7-9 - $900,000 | $915,000 | $930,000
10+ - $1,000,000 | $1,015,000 | $1,030,000

Did he go 3 the year Joeckle went Two (??)

I like taking a shot on the athleticism. Maybe it clicks and we have our Irvin replacement.

Yes. Luke Joeckel (2), Dion Jordan (3), Arthur Brown (56), Eddie Lacy (61), and Oday Aboushi (141) all entered the NFL in the 2013 draft class.

I gotta tell ya, that number needs to start coming DOWN starting with 7 years in the league. I bet we would see more veterans in the league if they were allowed to take a lower salary.
