Two NFL sources told The News Tribune Thursday afternoon Seattle has hired former Cowboys wide receiver coach Sanjay Lal to be an offensive assistant. Lal, 50, is replacing Steve Schimko.

Schimko, the Seahawks’ assistant quarterbacks coach last season and offensive assistant in 2018, left in January days after Seattle’s playoff loss at Green Bay. He is the new tight ends coach at Boston College.

Lal had been with the Cowboys the previous two seasons and had worked with current Seahawks offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer in 2017 when they were both employed by the Colts. He has reportedly been assigned to a senior assistant role to work closely with Schottenheimer on the offensive side of the ball.[urltargetblank]https://seahawkswire.usatoday.com/2020/02/14/sanjay-lal-seahawks-senior-assistant-brian-schottenheimer/[/urltargetblank]

............................................. looks like a coaching staff change with significant promise to blossom into a productive collaboration. Nice to have him on board early for the team building process of 2020.

I guess we needed someone.

Clearly a lifer as a position coach and not someone being groomed as the next OC.

Not sure position coaches need to have a "wow" factor since player performance largely depends on the desire of the player and their talent. Coaching can add a little motivation and instruction, but a player with a bad attitude is going to remain bad forever.

Players and coaches tend to move so they can work with/for folks they know. Sometimes it works out because they know each other and things work more smoothly due to familiarity, etc. This doesn't sound like something that is gonna shake anything up.

Do any of us "civilians" really know much of anything about position coaches, good or bad, in the NFL. I would imagine this man's coaching faults and praises are known within the sphere of the NFL, but in the world beyond pro football, not so much.

Interesting factoid, TBS. However, a better way to 'improve' 3rd down conversion rate is to make more yards on 1st and 2d down, so you're not always in 3rd and forever. ;)

Good find sutz!
That's the kind of stuff that makes it mean something.
I recall spending more time with my position coach than any other. He was also responsible for making recommendations to HC on who played (the position) and who didn't.

Well with Elliot healthy third down was much easier also, when your not having 3rd and 11 or 3rd and 8 and it's 3rd and 2 or 3rd and 3.

Pete's kid not cutting it?

Pete could be moving him to another position also, I am sure he wants to groom him in a variety of coaching positions.

Interesting that 3 days after the announcement of Sanjay Lal addition to the coaching staff, word comes that they signed a TE that has excelled at producing 1st downs during his career ....................
Olsen’s intelligence against zone coverage and understanding of leverage extends to his targets on curl routes, where he can either sit down in space between two defenders or put his body between a defender and the football. During his time in Carolina, 65 percent of Olsen’s catches resulted in a first down—his ability to find space over the middle was a big part of that. Greg Olsen discussion on going here >>> [urltargetblank]http://www.seahawks.net/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=163085&p=2387523#p2387523[/urltargetblank]

Coincidence? ....... unlikely biggthumpup:
