Ifedi is Cable's hand picked guy and he's going to get every opportunity possible, every benefit of the doubt from Cable right up until the point Wilson is carted off the field giving a thumb's up. Ifedi can do no wrong in Cable's bizarre, twisted world. Ignoring the reality factor is a sign of madness...which aptly sums up our OL state the last few years.

Prior to the Chargers game, Ifedi lost almost a week of practice because of the fight ...... so he is running a bit behind at his new right tackle position.

Would not term that as 'worth noting' in defense of Ifedi. He surrendered a ton of pressures last year, and looks to do the same at RT. Pure luck (or badassery by Wilson) he wasn't hurt on those plays. Odds of an injury are still high, based on pressures/hits given up.

Starting lineup should be Fant/Joeckel/Britt/Obushi/Pocic.

Ifedi does not deserve to start... he's garbage to date.

Don't know why some fans hunger for an annual whipping boy. Seems like a dated behavior. Very un-Seahawky. Doesn't champion a growth and development culture.

I hope Fant can reach his potential quickly. I'll be really happy with the line if we can get a decent LT. If Fant isn't better than last year, it's going to be another long season of us holding our breath every time Russ drops back.
I predict that by the end of this season George Fant will be the 2nd most valuable player on the team.

Agreed. It's a weird phenomenon. I think there's a sizeable segment of every fanbase that needs an outlet for their impotent frustration. Ifedi is the guy right now. A silver lining for Ifedi is that he only has to look at the pro-bowl alternate playing two spots to his left to find the guy who used to be their target.

I think Ifedi probably has the highest ceiling at right tackle, I don't mind them starting him out there I just want the leash to be fairly short.

That actually could be possible. I have my doubts it will materize though because with heavy feet and slow reactions, that is a problem that likely will never be able to fix. Even if it is, if Pocic is better right now today he should start at RT.

Thanks for posting. Yep, Pocic to RG alright. Glad he got in his annual "this is the most excited I've even been" also. I should mention I actually think it could be this time also if he would quit dickin around.

Ignoring the Pink Elephant in the room because it's trendy and not reality is what create most problems in the world, yes people don't want to hear the truth, that they have screwed up, that they can't perform and others can, it may cause life long issues with confidence and need therapy, let them go someplace else and underperform where their feelings won't get hurt, like Cleveland, or the Jets.

From my vantage, I thought the 3rd team center, Hunt, was getting to the second level very quickly, occupying linebackers, and creating space. Carson's biggest run had a whole lot to do with Hunt.

I don't know if there is room on the roster for the undersized kid, but he looked really good to me.

Ifedi was a rookie last year playing next to 2 guys we let go and who both lost starting jobs last year - first to Fant (Sowell) then to each other (Sowell replacing Gilliam in the "open competition" and then Gilliam later replacing Sowell again).

That tells you everything you need to know about continuity for the rookie last year.

But let's dump him anyway, he's obviously a bust.

Growth and development is a process.

For us fans watching via the stands or telecast, the next step in the process arrives tomorrow .... Friday .... August 18th ..... 7PDT. All of these player development stories are at the heart of what it means to be Seahawky ........ choosing to work at becoming a better player ..... a better fan ...... a better brother or sister one day at a time.

Ifedi is the same exact player he was at A&M with the same exact mental and technical deficiencies he showed coming out. The quicker they admit he is the backup on the right side the better this line will get.

One think helping Fant in his second season—in addition to his own mental and physical development—is playing next to Joeckel, a fifth-year veteran who has starting experience at both guard and tackle.

“I think there’s something to that,” Cable said. “We’ve talked a lot about (Joeckel’s) calmness and his experience level and some of the things he has faced in his own career—not much different than George in a lot of ways other than that he had a football background. So I think it’s having a great, positive effect in regards to their communication, being able to settle (Fant) down, keep him kind of on point.” [urltargetblank]http://www.seahawks.com/news/2017/08/16/tom-cable-%E2%80%9Cvery-excited%E2%80%9D-about-what-he-has-seen-seahawks-offensive-line[/urltargetblank]

A similar rationale is why we are seeing a lot of Oday Aboushi at guard on the right side. Bringing in a couple of experienced veterans for both guard positions may very well accelerate the growth and development of their young tackles.

I think Cable spelled things out pretty accurately. Good interview. He seems very confident with Britt, Joeckel and Fant.

Definitely a downer when a player exhibiting major deficiencies one season shows in the following preseason that any offseason strengthening, conditioning, and studying he did appears minimally beneficial. Nevertheless, I'll be watching the guy closely the next few games, hoping he finds ways to compensate for his flaws. I remain hopeful for the guy.

Did Cable start out the interview about Ifedi talking about Ifedi make three blunders? How many plays was he in there for?

Agree. Although my hope is very dim.

Full disclosure: I was an Ifedi critic when he came out. I really hated his tape. I definitely argued against his perceived quality. I never felt like I saw what those that felt he was a worthy 1st round talent were seeing. I did concede that he had the measurables and the athleticism that would likely make him a top 64 pick. And also conceded that those traits would be like catnip for Tom Cable and we'd draft him with our top pick.

I felt like it was watching a vehicle accident unfold at the beginning. Before the collision.

Once a Seahawk, I felt obliged to eat those criticisms and see where professional coaching could take him. It's possible that my intrinsic skeptic nature prevented me from succeeding at that.

That all said, I look at Ifedi now and the only thing I hear in my head is: "If you're going to fail, fail quickly". A coin of phrase often voiced by John Schneider. I look at him now and I don't see any manifestation of his athleticism at all. I hope I'm wrong. Wouldn't be the first time. But I also don't want to scuttle an entire season in a short championship window in order to confirm what I think I see. What we all think we saw last year.
