I'll give Pete and to a lesser extent, JS, credit for continuing to pursue any avenue to make the D better. I know that Pete plays a tremendous role in coaching up defensive backs.
Imagine if half the effort / expertise / premium coaching talent was put in place focusing on the offensive line and running backs? Not to mention the offensive game plan week in and out.
