Heaps: How Tyler Lockett got so open for Seahawks’ go-ahead TD

Tyler Lockett had a quiet Week 1 for the Seahawks, but the fifth-year wide receiver came up big when he got the chance.

Lockett was targeted just two times in the entire season opener against the Cincinnati Bengals, but he caught the first one for a 44-yard touchdown reception that proved to be the winning score in the Seahawks’ 21-20 victory.

The Bengals clearly keyed on Lockett, Seattle’s No. 1 receiver, which allowed rookie DK Metcalf to get a lot of attention from quarterback Russell Wilson. So much so, in fact, that Metcalf had four receptions for 89 yards, breaking Steve Largent’s record for most receiving yards by a rookie in his Seahawks debut. That’s not to say Lockett didn’t have an impact on the game, of course, as his touchdown proves.

In the first installment of Jake Heaps’ Film Room of the 2019 NFL season, the former NFL and NCAA quarterback and current 710 ESPN Seattle host breaks down what went into Lockett’s big play. How did he and Wilson get on the same page? Why was he able to get open on this play when the Bengals had kept him under wraps until then? Watch the attached video to find out how.
