Hey Fellow 12's!!

Like the vast majority of you, I'm very excited about this Duane Brown trade and what it means for the Seahawks moving forward. As I've been trying to assess just how MUCH of an upgrade this is for the Seahawks, I've been taking a look at some of the numbers from Pro Football Focus (and they are pretty eye popping). For those who are interested, I thought I would share some of the numbers that I've compiled ...

BEFORE ...

• Over the past two seasons the Seahawks have boasted one of the worst left-tackle situation in the NFL. In 2016 starter George Fant was the lowest graded tackle in the league with an overall grade of 30.3, while this season has featured Rees Odhiambo as the starter. His grade of 27.3 also ranks last among qualifiers.

• Brown joins one of the most porous offensive lines in the league in terms of pass blocking, a unit that is ranked 30th with a 71.5 pass-blocking efficiency mark.

How about this past Sunday? This last Sunday's game was a real exclamation point of just how glaring of a weakness Left Tackle has been.

The Houston Texans got a monster defensive performance from edge defender Jadeveon Clowney in Sunday afternoon’s game against the Seahawks. Despite the game being a shootout, Clowney put up the highest game grade of the week among edge defenders with a game grade of 96.6.

On 45 pass-rush snaps, Clowney earned a pass-rush productivity of 15.6 while racking up a season-high nine pressures including a sack and a hit. He was also dominant stopping the run tallying three run stops on just 18 run defense snaps.

Edge defender – Jadeveon Clowney, Houston Texans
PFF Grade: 94.8
Elite Stat: Jadeveon Clowney had eight total pressures from 43 pass-rushing snaps.

Clowney had an absolute field day going up against Odhiambo, as Left Tackle was basically a turnstile for Clowney and that Texans Front.

NOW ...

Duane Brown, as has been noted by many, is a vastly different story. Here's who he's been ...

On 428 pass-block snaps in 2016, Brown surrendered just one sack on his way to putting up his eighth consecutive season being ranked in the top-20 at his position with an overall grade of 84.6.

And this past Sunday? How about these numbers (going up against our beloved Hawks)?

Pro Football Focus judged that he gave up just two pressures on 37 pass snaps against Seattle Sunday, one on a missed assignment, which was likely to be expected given having just returned to practice Monday.

Not too shabby for a guy who'd missed the entire season who (by the way) happens to be going up against Frank Clark.

Just thought I'd throw that out there. IMO, given Brown's experience with the Zone Blocking Schemes, this is a Night and Day plug and play addition, as besides being a Pro Bowl Level LT, I contend he can be that coach out on the field for the young guys.

Phenomenal addition that should pay HUGE dividends for this team moving forward.

Prior to this trade I had the Seahawks having an 11-5 or 12-4 season. Post trade I see 13-3. That's quite a difference and IMO will significantly increase the Hawks chances at home field advantage through the playoffs and of course the SB now looks within sight more than ever. Good on JS/PC for actually addressing their biggest need, the OL hopefully is all the way up to the desired "average" designation from this point on.

Borrowing from Bill James's concept of Win/Shares, I would have to agree with you in saying that Duane Brown's addition alone could easily mean the difference in +1 or maybe even +2 wins on the season.

That right there could honestly be the difference between getting HFA throughout the playoffs and a possible inside track to the Super Bowl.

Outstanding move by Schneider IMO.
